  • What do you think about this gyro??????

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me what he thinks about a Futaba FP.G154 Rate Gyro. Does it work good or should you keep your hands of. I do not want to use it for 3D flying just the easy stuff, hovering, figures of 8 and a little more.

The 154 gyro is a mechanical gyro and as such is a little old and primative compared to the Piezo solid state gyros that are now available with the added benefits of Heading Hold (AVCS) etc.

Personally I would steer well clear of a 154, you can pick up single and dual rate gyro's cheaply both new and 2nd hand which will perform far better than any mechanical unit.

      Hi Rob,
It's a little late now, I bought one from ebay for 4.21, I don't think that is a robbery. I'll see how it goes. Any way thanks for you reply on my question.

Be aware that as its mechanical it will draw more current than a piezo gyro so your pack will need to be beefier or will not last as long. Keep an eye on the voltage meter, if you dont have one I would get one... they are also cheap on ebay.

I see there are a couple of CSM400's up for auction at a good price. I have one of these and it is ok, not as good as my Futaba 401 but better than a standard piezo.

          Hi Rob,
I'll keep all this in mind, after all 4.21 isn't a price to lose sleap on.

Belair - 154 's work well enough for non 3d flying - the motor is the weakness, when they have run for a few months the motors start to loose rpm and the gyro looses it's ability to sense yaw changes.
The good news is the motors are easy to change and cheap to buy.

              Thanks Dave,
I don't want to fly 3D, where can I find the motor if I need one?
