Buy what those around you fly is generally the best advice. That way you can get setup and tuning advice easily and practically.
If that isn't a factor, then look for features. Spirit and Brain2 are very feature rich. Both can read ESC telemetry from the major ESC makers (Kontronik, Scorpion, Hobbywing, Castle), and both offer TX integration with Spektrum, FrSky OpenTX, Jeti and Graupner HoTT. They also both offer rescue (self level and climb) at no additional charge (unlike Beast X and Vbar).
Vbar is the choice of the competition pilot. Maybe that's because it flies the best, maybe it's because Mikado hand their stuff out to great pilots. I don't know. I fly Vbar myself, but that's because it's what I've flown for almost a decade and I see no reason to change.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.
My FBL of choice is the Spirit range. The new Spirit2 would probably be the best choice for the 380. You get all the bells and whistles including rescue and stability options that you have to pay a whole lot extra for with other FBL brands. Also the Spirit provides ESC telemetry data interface with a range of ESC's, so you get data such as RPM, battery voltage, mAh consumed and more sent back to your Tx. Plus you get integration so you can adjust all FBL settings direct from most brands of Tx. They are fantastic value and they fly great too.
Spirit keep their costs down by selling direct and also by not sponsoring 'pro pilots'. Tech support and software updates are also by far the best in the business with Spirit, light-years ahead of anything else. Support comes straight from Tomas who is the guys who deigned the FBL and writes the software.
Thanks for the advice guys, Spirit was where my head was at so that pretty much confirms things for me.
Any accessories required with the Spirit FBL ?
It would just depend on what TX/RX you're using. I can only speak about Spektrum. So for example with the Spirit 2 and Spirit pro you can plug 2 Spektrum sats directly in, or you can use a regular RX or SRXL receiver. With the standard Spirit you can only plug one sat directly into it and for 2 sats you need their adaptor lead.
With the standard Spirit it's a bit lacking in ports to connect things so you may end up needing a servo Y lead or two.
They come with the USB lead for the setup software and there is a WiFi and BT adaptor available if you want to use the mobile app version of the software.
