  • Is there such a thing as a good indoor and outdoor heli ?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to play with an rc heli, and I've done some reading but I still can't decide what I want,
Ideally I'd like something that I can use both indoors and out which means I need an electric. The hornet v3 looks nice, but I'm not sure how well it will do outside.

To further complicate matters, my house is quite small and the Hornet v3 might be a bit big. The hornet instructions come on a CD - does anyone know if this works in a Mac ?

Can anyone recommend a good starter helicopter that will meet my desires ? If not a model to start, are there any good sims for the Mac?

    Indoor Outdoor

The hornet v3 falls into the class of 'micro heli', making it fine indoors, however when it comes to flying them outside, as they are so small anything but the gentlist breeze will take the thing from one end of the garden to the other quicker than you can blink!!!! Saying that there are people on here who seem to be flying the T-Rex, and the Zoom outside without too many problems but how they cope with the wind I don't realy know!!
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

    And a DX8 too

Hmm, ok. Maybe I should just start with one indoor and then add an outdoor later when I find somewhere that I can fly and get comfortable indoors.

If I'm just going indoors, what kind of thing could I get away with in a 12 square metre room ?

            Micro indoors?

            Hey,
I'm assuming you have flown a heli before right?
If not i would strongly advise against a small indoor heli,
My reasoning is that a small indoor heli is a lot harder to fly than say a 30 nitro, and same goes for the 30's comparison to the 50, and 50's all the way up to the 90's.
The Larger they are the more stability they have.
So to start out with a micro will mean a lot of frustration and proberbly expense.
Myself, i went thru 2 micro's before i opted for a nitro, and now i'm dancing
But on thoes 2 micros i spent enough to get an R50SE!!
I know which i'd rather have now?!
Their not imposible to fly but i, and many people i have spoken to agree that they are not an ideal starting point.
Just my 2 cents i guess.

Ps, Also its not just the size that add's to the stability issues but these things are so small/light that their own downdraft can cause serious turbalance issues if in a confined space....
