  • I've dusted it off!

    Hello all
Been a member for a while now from when I was looking to get back into the hobby after a health setback. I purchased a TREX470l, beastx, Spektrum DX8g2 back in 2015 and put it all together as I thought fit. To cut a long story short, I never got round to setting it all up, but was going to have it done by Midland, who I bought it all from, but health issues again prevented me going up to see them. So now after approx 4 years of it being sat on the shelf and in storage boxes I've decided to have a go again. My coordination is back, (I think) as I've been flying a drone for a few months and all seems to be going ok, well no crashes yet etc!

My question is where do I start with the setting up of the Transmitter? I can understand the swashplate geometry setting etc. but how much do you set up the transmitter with regards to mixing elevator, aileron and so forth or does the beastx sort it out? Same with rudder and throttle mixing?

Sorry if this sounds a bit fundamental, and maybe I should take up crocheting or something, but it aint half different from my first Shuttle and Sanwa RD6000!!!!

Any help would be grateful and welcome all sorts of urine extracting banter!

    Regards
    Andrew

No mixing on a heli for elevator/aileron/rudder with a FBL controller. You are the mixer

I'd start by powering up the servos and getting the horns at 90degrees, and the balls in the right place and links the right length according to the manual, then i'd level the swash plate.
Then i't would be head on, set 0 degrees pitch at mid stick, and then setup the beastx in accordance with its instructions.
I fly Vbar which talks you through the setup, so best not to comment on beastx.

      Your predicament

      Hi,

      welcome back.

First off, the beast x will deal with all the mixing needed, disable everything else on the mixes, the fbl/ beast will manage it, in fact, if you have mixes in the tx it will mess up the beast!

when you set the beast up, loads of brilliant videos on you tube, you need a straight line in throttle and pitch. That is 0 at the bottom, 100 at the top.

get your physical/ mechanical setup spot on first, saves sooo much agro later. Servo arms at 90 to the servo etc, you probably know that, and zero pitch on the blades.

from there, set your pitch up to about + - 10 degrees.

throttle curve is for you to decide but you would want to be generally hovering pitch and throttle just above mid stick.

there are many far more experienced than me on all of this but thought I would reply to you get you started.

good luck, any questions I will do my best to answer.

      ian.

          Welcome back!

Beastx is easy to set up and there are hundreds of guides online, youtube etc.

Id recommend getting the cable to make adjustments through your pc (https://www.align-trex.co.uk/beastx-...-bxa76007.html) and upgrade firmware etc, current version is 5.1.3. The software has a much easier learning curve than playing with the sticks to set it up.

you can also unlock the rescue functionality in case of emergency while flying, it is a paid upgrade but worth it. You can also set it up to fly like a 6 axis quad would.
