I've got Kodi on my laptop and stream it to my telly.

Its ok but it's only as good as the sites it links to and they're forever getting shut down or just going off line. It also depends on the speed of your internet connection, I get a lot of buffering going on especially on the live broadcasts on the sports channels etc. And the quality's not great.

Just discovered it myself, got and android tv box off eBay around £24. With kodi you can watch just about anything free. Some apps are better than others two of the better ones are BOB and I like HEVC video club as the films are categorised eg 720 or 1080 and are instant no waiting for links etc. I have virgin 30 meg and its ample but as guy said some apps lag and buffer it's just a case of finding the good ones.

Kodi is a multi-platform piece of media centre software and will run on PC, Mac, iOS (jailbroken only), Android, Linux and probably others.

What you're probably interested in are the legally questionable addons that you can get for it. These are basically scrapers for links that are then searchable and catalogued. You choose what you want to watch, it collects a bunch of links which may or may not work and can be anything from a camera job to 1080p in quality.

I do use Kodi, and have for over a decade (since XBMC) along with a dedicated server holding all my media.
It's no substitute for a legit provider like Netflix, Amazon, NowTV etc.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

well I cancelled my Netflix and now tv as I can watch all the stuff for free and in good quality. The only stuff that is poor Is the brand new stuff still in the cinema.. That said I've watched suicide squad, sully , miss peregrine and Jason Bourne all really clear with good sound so I'm happy with it. No waiting for walking dead etc

I've got a fires tick and I'll be honest it's pants, hard to find stuff on and streams crap quality and buffers like mad and I've got 100mg internet. I'm looking at getting a box as they have quad core and I presume will be faster and buffer less? As for kodi, yes it's good, but depends on The build installed. I'm just looking into learning how to install builds, so I can change them when they go crap. I have a. 3D and 4K tv, but have never found anything on the build to watch.

Buffering is nothing to do with CPU power. It's not the CPU that makes them great at decoding video, they have dedicated hardware for that. Better CPU speed just makes the interface a little quicker and smoother.
If your internet is good (BT infinity or cable), then buffering is either caused by poor WiFi signal if you're using that, or the server that's sending out the video.
As long as the box can do 4K and HEVC (sometimes called H.265), you'll be good to go for the foreseeable future.

As for "builds", I don't and won't use them. It's easy enough just to install the addons that you want without it getting bloated and hard to keep track of. My android Kodi boxes have about 3 addons on them, and my HTPC which also runs Kodi has about 6.
If it's skins you're after (to alter the appearence), they're also simple enough to install yourself.
