  • some guidence please

Hi so I am in the market for a small CP heli, and after some rather frustrating research have come down to the blade 300 or the Trex 250, so not only looking at how well they each fly, but spares, survivability etc, I am a novice flyer, and crash better than anyone I know !!!!, any input from anyone with expriance of these two machines would be great.
    Thanks

IMHO in that size of Heli it would have to be a Oxy3 , built like a tank, flys awesome, repairs after a crash are usually very cheap & A pleasure to work on , although I've never owned a blade 300 it would be my choice between the two you have mentioned , ive had a trex 250 and hated it , old design hard to work on & flys nothing like the oxy3's , hope this helps Kenny d

Hi thanks for all the info, the oxy3 looks good but very expensive, and not many come up on the used market, and like everyone I have to look after the pennies, so maybe the 230s.

Can you fly CP already or are you a beginner?

hi Tom, bee flying FP for a few years and the last year of so been flying cp WL 977 and a blade msrx - looking for something a bit bigger and with better tail rotor response, but not to the size of a 450 +, as my flying are is a bit limited, and still a novice, no 3d stuff.

Lee don't know why you don't want to get a 450, their cheap to crash, spares are plentiful and their easier to work on than their smaller cousins. That being said the 230 has the 3 modes of flight and I believe bailout. Don't get a 250, they don't crash well and are terrible to work on! I had one for a while, liked flying it, hated repairing it!

If here is any way that you can find a decent fying site I'd recommend to go for something 450 size too. Personally I've always found anything much smaller than 450 tricky to fly and frustrating to own and keep airworthy. Having said that I've never owned a 230S and they do get good reviews, so your call.

Personally therefore, I would recommend you re-look at 450 size. Honestly, they can be easier than the smaller helis, being less twitchy. They handle the wind better and are just easier to control. There is the extra "pucker factor" flying something a bit bigger, but take it easy and you should have no problems. Like anything, rush it and you'll pay the price - take it one step at a time and you'll be rewarded. The Blade 230S is a good heli, but seing as you're flying CP already, I don't honestly believe it will move you on - and it has a fixed-pitch tail rotor too. The Oxy3 is a brilliant little heli, but it is small and therefore likely to be more of a handful than 450 which will be more docile. If you don't want to build yourself, consider a Blade 360 BNF, or second hand Gaui X3, Blade 360, Blade 450X, Align 450's.

Hi tom , having owned about 15 trex 450's & 4 oxy's , IMHO the oxy is easier to fly, better tail control & more stable that trex 450's ,

Might this say more about the specification and quality of the electronics fitted than it does about the Heli itself?

I've not owned an Oxy3 and while I can see that it's a superb quality piece of kit it cant escape the basic laws of physics which dictate that (all other things being equal) bigger helis are easier to see plus with their greater weight comes greater inertia making them less effected by wind, less 'twitchy' and more 'stable'?

Also with the top quality and 'niche appeal' comes cost, the Oxy3 will likely be more expensive to build and to maintain/repair.

The new Align 470LP has to be a contender.
A little bigger than a 450 but has a belt tail drive & plastic bits rather than shiney machined bits, to keep costs down.
kits for around £186 or £353 for the super combo with BeastX plus.
