    Evening all.
Ive been watching on utube drones being raced with cameras fitted and the pilot wearing goggles?
Having a quick look around the internetz (i think) these goggles are just holders for moblie phones and the live data is transfered straight to the phone?
    Am i right so far?
I fancy having a go myself but dont know what i need to buy.
Anybody able to tell me what i need please?
Ive no idea what this kit costs. But looking for mid range to start with. Im not loaded but dont want to go too cheap and wish straight away that id spent a bit extra few bob if you know what i mean.
Also can this equipment be used on helis as im not realy into drones.

    Cheers all

I have an F550 drone, so not a racer by any stretch, but have been looking at camera equipment to work with the gopro. From my understanding transmitting to your phone wont be fast enough. If its doing it over wifi or blutooth there will be a slight delay, which potentially could cause a crash. also range will be an issue.

I think the only way to go is the dedicated camera TX / RX, such as those from fat shark etc.

I know screens instead of head sets are very cheap on ebay

Also fast lads do the FPV cameras as well:

      Fast Lad Performance

I tend to think of the camera side of things to be a seperate system to all others on the drone. It is seperate. it does not interface with any control surfices (obviously) or the comms on that side.

So it will work on helis. The only issue is mamaging to supply it all with the correct power, which may mean a seperate battery etc. Here is a good onboard video on a heli

I started fpv about 6 years ago with cheap goggles.
        And it starts an addiction.

If your beginning and not sure if its for you.
Quanum Cyclops FPV Goggle w/ Integrated Monitor and Receiver (UK Warehouse)

Try that headset, comes with all thats needed except the camera and video transmitter for the quad, heli etc and it's fairly cheap.
Then add about £40 for those parts.

I've tried monitors and those headsets but still prefer goggles.
Probably because I'm used to them.

You may find you prefer goggles, but if someone is near you to try goggles that would be your best bet, as goggles are expensive.

as the only 3 items I've purchased from hobby king have been faulty and sent back within the same week as arriving

No, the goggles are dedicated receivers with built-in screens. Nothing to do with mobile phones.

Easiest entry into FPV is a pre-canned setup : eg. Blade: Nano QX FPV

Not realistically - flying FPV is hard - flying a heli would be a recipe for disaster unless you're Kyle Stacey

Flying a helicopter FPV is no more or less difficult than flying a quad FPV, with one big exception..... Landing!

Or should I say, landing without wrecking the helicopter. If you can land line of sight and have a way to take off the goggles as you bring it in, then you're golden.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

ok, maybe no more difficult, but the consequences of getting it wrong with a large flying buzz-saw shouldn't be under-estimated!

                  One of these

                  A pair of these
Fatshark Teleporter V5 Headset (UK Warehouse)

You will need a small battery to run the camera and your good to go.

If you want to record then you will need:

SD DVR High Resolution Digital Video Recorder for FPV (UK Warehouse)

and a cable - must use this cable the FS goggles are wired differently than the cables I had, this from the Global warehouse is about £20 cheaper

If the teleporters are still has bad as when I looked through a pair.

I'd advise you to save the little extra for a better pair.

                    It was sometime ago though,
And would of thought they would of improved then for horizon to sell them.

At this level its mostly the camera that will let you down not the goggles (connect them to your dvd player and watch a film). All goggle take getting used to so your first experience is generally your worst. I would advise calm, you need to learn what the brightness and contrast do and to work them for most flights, they are not what you would assume and effect both colour and depth perception. Ive done back to back with the Fat Shark range and teles are OK with small cameras. The other thing about getting them from HK is that for some reason they are £50 cheaper than everywhere else. So if you hate them your resale will be OK. Most FPV folk have a spare pare of goggles for someone else to "ride along" and again if you really like FPV then use the teles as your ride along pair and get your self some better quality ones- beaware they all need contrast and brightness working to get the best - sometimes useable - picture

                        Yeah that's true.

I started with a turnigy pair of goggles before fatshark existed.
Looking back they weren't good to be fair, but was a starting point.

                        So it does make sense.
And did get some money back on them towards my next pair.

                        I've done with fatsharks also.
Last pair I brought were the dom v2s with glass optics.

Since then I moved over to skyzones.
And just upgraded to the new skyzone 3d white ones with autoscan.

Hence I may have a pair of the older version 3d ones up for sale.
