  • 230S very slow yaw during hover

    Hi all,

It's not a big issue but I'm curious as to whether other 230S owners experience the same thing? Whether in stability or IU1 mode, I have a very very slow yaw present, counterclockwise (turns to the left, probably equivalent to half a click of rudder). It's actually not a bad training aid as it's helping me with my orientations lol

Anyway, I wondered whether it's important not to touch the rudder when performing a trim flight? Or whether the FBL takes into account, or even ignores, the rudder inputs during a trim flight? Does a trim flight even impact on the yaw rate? Also, wondering whether I should try to trim it out from the Tx? (DXe)

I had previously gone through the firmware update, calibration and trim flight procedures as a matter of course, and am wondering whether it's just a limitation of the "budget" electronics, and/or DD tail that causes the tail not to be completely "locked" when hovering.

The turn rate doesn't appear to change with head-speed changes (switched from stability to IU1 mode, for example), the tail blades are in good condition, although I do have several spares (of course!) and the tail motor doesn't seem to get too hot.

    TIA

      Andy, YES!

My 230, a 200 and a quad display the same problem. It never really bothered me until trying to set up a small quad for racing recently. My 450 doesn't do it. I was beginning to suspect my transmitter but work has called me away from home so no progress at all. No idea if a trim flight would help as mine flew ok out of the box but it is something I'd like to fix whenever I get back home. Good luck and please let this thread know if you fix it.

hi Dean, all going well I think, about 50 flights in and pretty happy with all orientations in stability mode, getting more used to IU1 now

thanks Euclid, I'll change the tail rotor tomorrow and see, if it doesn't help I'll play around with the trim flights, if the weather is kind...

The 230S with a fixed-pitch tail motor will never have the same speed as a heli with a variable-pitch tail slider. I suspect changing the tail prop will just put undue pressure on the tail motor.
