Trex Equivalent ??

Hi Guys.
Well its a few years since I have posted on here as I dropped out of the Heli Scene. My last Heli was a Nitro Big Scale Model Souix. I have recently got the bug again and I have been practicing on a Huban 4 Channel FPV Lynx (Electric) I am now thinking of getting something a bit bigger, its got to be second hand as I am a bit short on funds, I have seen a couple of Trex 150/ 250 and 450 on flea bay, I know the Trex is a good Heli, but does it have an Equivalent, I was looking at the E-flite Blade 400 but i was told to leave it alone as its a load of crap. I dont want to go back down the dirty Nitro route I want to go Electric, so any suggestions would be much appreciated,

Hi not sure what you mean by equivalent but the blade 230s would seem to be a better choice, I did however like the blade 400 was easily to repair and fairly tough. Was the first heli I felt confident enough to flip roll and loopMichael

I would personally go with a Trex 550 I had the V1 and it was an excellent machine reliable and because its a larger model it handled the wind fine.

The Blade 400 is a pile of crap because it's yonks old. It was discontinued several years back! Blade's newer "450" is the 360cfx (which is actually slightly bigger than an old 450 despite the numbering). It's a million miles from the old 400. https://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/b...bnf-basic.html

But, also consider the Blade 270cfx - which has beginner modes and "rescue function" : Blade 270 CFX BNF Basic [BLH4850]
or the Blade 250cfx : again - beginner modes and rescue but smaller : Blade 250 CFX BNF Basic with SAFE Technology [BLH4480]

All of the above are pre-built models, ready to fly from the box. If however you are happy building yourself, I would consider ...

You probably need to decide on a size and budget before you can go much further. The Trex 150/250 and 450 that you mentioned are very different sized helis so not really comparable.

Bigger almost inevitably flies better so as long as you have the space to fly and budget and as you have previous flying experience then 'go large' is what I'd advise. But of course your going to need batteries and charger etc and they all get more expensive the bigger you go.

The smaller Trex helis don't seem like the best choice these days. In the 150 or 250 size, Blade is probably your best bet (e.g. 180, 230S, 250CFX) or even some of the Chinese equivalents in the 150 size range. When you get to 450 size you suddenly have a lot of quality choice and the Trex 450 wouldn't make my shortlist today, even though I'm sure it would be adequate for most needs. But I would look more seriously at the Gaui X3 and Mini-Protos in that class. Or perhaps a Blade 360 CFX if you want something ready built. Just have to see what pops up in the classifieds, but not uncommon to see reasonably priced X3s etc.
