  • Blade230S Intermediate mode???

    Morning all.

Scratching my head about this one a little bit.

My Blade is controlled using the DXE radio that it came with and everything is in perfect working order.

Up till now ive been getting the hang of things with it and its been set in "O" Stability mode.
But want to try flying in "1" Intermediate mode.

The problem im having is every time i switch it to Intermediate it spools up as soon as i flick the throttle hold switch.
Not sure what im doing wrong.
Tried adjusting the trim but nothing is working.
Im switching the radio on first every time before connecting the battery on the heli as per instructions.

Help needed as im not sure what im doing wrong.

    Thanks

    Rich

I'm not expert on the 230S or the DXe radio I'm afraid. But I'm guessing that "intermediate mode" on the DXe has an "idle up" throttle curve pre-programmed into the radio.

ie. You're doing nothing wrong - this is normal behaviour I suspect.

(google for "what is idle up" , and you'll plenty on this subject if you're not sure what "idle up" is, and why you need it!)

As Tom says, this is completely normal. Intermediate and Agility modes both have fully powered up throttle curves and actually give 100% throttle at low stick (along with max negative pitch). So yes it will spool up as soon as you switch TH off. In this mode you need to spool up with your collective (throttle) stick slightly below mid stick and then increase gradually until it takes off into a hover. The throttle is basically a constant (although in this case it actually dips slightly around mid stick) and lift is controlled primarily by blade pitch. In Stability mode things are different as the throttle curve starts from zero at low stick and ramps up gradually with only a positive pitch curve (no negative pitch).

              Morning all

              You were all correct.
Took the leap of faith and gave it a try last night. Im glad i was in a wide open space. But there were no dramas thankfully.

              Another question if i may.

In 3D i assume you start at mid stick?
When the helli is inverted you pull the elevator stick down to keep the helicopter up?

              Thanks

For 3D flying mid stick (throttle/collective) is zero pitch, down is negative pitch for inverted climb out, up is positive pitch for upright climb out. The elevator stick pushes the heli's nose up or down and obviously works in reverse when inverted. The rudder stick is also reversed when inverted, but the aileron stick remains the same. Confused? You will be when you first try it!

I presume you meant throttle/collective stick, not elevator stick above.

                      good point!

Left stick = collective / rudder
right stick = elevator / aileron

The left stick (collective) controls height, using a mixture of throttle and pitch in normal mode and just pitch (collective) in idle up.
