  • Flight after flight

Hi all, just a quick question, at the moment I'm primary flying my 450l, as I fly on my own I tend to fly one battery straight after another (I have 5 batteries) . My flight times are about 5.30 mins doing circuits, 8's, flips, loops, rolls. Should I be giving the heli a cool down period before going straight back in the air? If so how long? Am I shortening the length of components by doing this?

    Thanks Jay

I doubt you're putting the electronics under significant load doing those gentle manoeuvres. The two things that are likely to get hot though are the motor and the ESC. Perhaps check between flights that they're not getting too hot (bizarrely, under-loading the motor is likely to result in a build-up of heat in the ESC!).

FWIW though, I tend to fly my X3 pretty much back to back - with maybe 2-3 mins between flights with no ill effects.

I fly back to back flights without any concern. On the helis that I have data logging on I find that the effect of the heli being hot at the start of the flight increases final temperature at the end only slightly, nothing to get worried about.

You can actually pull quite a few amps on loops, so its good to vary your routine a bit during your flight. If your motor or ESC is way too hot to touch for even a short period of time, then let it cool a little before the next flight. You can use that time to assess how your flight went and think about what you want to work on next flight to progress.
