Hi, please could someone explain to me how bank switching works, what it is, and how to program my (new) dx7, or post a link to help me. I have just installed a Spirit pro Fbl on the 450L and would like to be able to use some of the rescue/stability settings without having to program the unit on the ground every time, i understand bank switching can achieve this but am absolutely clueless (all internet searches on bank switching come up with how top switch your bank account). At the moment i have the rescue set on a toggle switch that is also used for my gain (as the unit knows when to rescue by the change of gain setting) not ideal i know but my skills are somewhat limited in TX programming.

    Thanks for any help

The instructions for Spektrum transmitters with the Spirit are not the best.

The easy way to get rescue working off an independant switch is by using mixes. You dont need bank switching to do it. You set up two mixes that look like the attached screenshot. It's very important that you program two identical mixes, I used Mix 1 and Mix 2 in the mix list but any will do.

This will put rescue on the large top left switch (switch A), activated when you pull the switch toward yourself. But you can use any unassigned switch, just make sure not to make the mistake of powering up with the switch in rescue position. I replaced the switch with a spring loaded one but you could just set an alarm to activate when the switch is in the rescue position to avoid accidentally leaving it on.

Bank switching is something available in many of the modern FBL units - Neo, vBar, Vortex, etc. It basically allows you to have different settings programmed into the FBL unit which you can choose using a switch from the TX. So for example, you could have a "docile, gentle" setting in bank 1 with an "agile, responsive" setting in bank 2.

Then, you can change the way the heli behaves without fiddling with DR, expo settings etc.

As to what parameters in the FBL unit can be influence per-bank, that depends on which FBL unit!

As said above by Tom, bank switching is almost like profiles that you can switch between. Traditionally, you would use your gain change nel to switch between AVCS and rate mode, with the values giving you a gain level (+30 would be 30% AVCS, - 30 would be 30% Rate gain etc.).

Bank switching takes this further. It takes a spare channel (tail gain typically) and splits the range into chunks. It made split the - 100 to 100 range into 5 chunks (-100 to -60, -59 to -20, -19 to 20... And so on). The FBL is then expecting to see one of these sections so it knows what bank to select. You'd use your flight mode switches etc. to select which bank.

I'm not familiar with the spirit or spectrum so can't advise on setting it up but I hope that helps explain what bank switching is.

Basically just think of it as remote tail gain, switching between rate and AVCS, but extended to many other features configured on the FBL itself. Each section can select a different flying style that you program on the FBL unit.

As above, bank switching is a useful feature, but it's not the best way to activate rescue because you would usually want rescue available in all flight modes. If you use the mixing option I mentioned to activate rescue it works in all banks, so you can use banks for what they are intended and have rescue available in all.
