  • Align Aps Lite

    Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and being a reborn Heli fan your forum looked great place to keep in touch with whats going on the heli world.

Over the last 4 months got back into heli's with a new Align 500l dominator & 150 DFC Dx8 tx,
after a 13yr break and come from the flybar machines of that time.

Although I understand the flybarless concept and the advantages, the setting up of these FBL controllers is quite daunting.

Recently I purchased a Align APS Lite with a view to fitting it on my Dominator, but looking into the setup of the APS on my heli and Dx8
has fried my brain totally, while still trying to fully understand the 3GX FBL controller, which a friend of mine helped setup for me when we built the heli, but unfortunately he has no experience with APS Lite and lives 270 miles away.

I live in the N/West near Preston and wondered if there is anyone not to far away who could physically help with APS setup and test
    flights etc.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated
    Thanks Big Paul

      Hi Paul and welcome.

I got back into flying after a lay off last year and bought the same heli as you which included a Gpro FBL unit. After a couple of crashes, I decided a bit of insurance was required against the costs of re-build and swapped out the Gpro for a Bavarian Demon 3SX which has self levelling which can be switched to varying levels from full on to off using the transmitter whilst flying.

The APS Lite system takes everything to the next level with GPS position hold, height hold, self level, return to base etc. but I don't know whether you would need all that if you are just trying to ease yourself back into heli flying from a long lay off and just want a bit of protection whilst you build up your skills and confidence. Also APS Lite requires a fair bit of space to fit and the 500L doesn't have too much room.

I know you have already bought the APS system and it would be great if you could find someone to help set it all up, but if you end up having to go it alone and struggle to get it all working properly then swapping out the whole fbl controller system for a BD3SX would be a good option.
