  • What is it about tic tocking?

I have recently developed this interest in tic tocs. Up to recently I have found circular and continuous maneuvers such as funnels or circuits with transitions much more appealing than any of the smack moves that involve sudden changes in direction, e.g., tic tocs. But now I can't stop tic tocking when I sim.

Perhaps it is the edge orientations. I have never been exposed to some of the orientations that are presented by tic tocs and I feel that they complement standard orientation skills well.

Here is a video of one of my tic toc practice on the sim.

Tic Tocs are one of those things I can do but have never mastered it properly . I watch top pilots inch them just of the deck and the heli is stationary . I do have days when this happens but its not often , more practice I think is needed !

I imagine (though dont know) that it takes a higher skill level than perhaps your used to and so when you have matered it this is more apprealing to you and so you pratice more

Its the same with me. I recently started hovering nose in on the sim and am making some progress so cant wait to practice again

With all the tic toc variations I bet a tic toc is one of those things that can take years to master.

I think you are right. It is really the challenge. Good to hear about your progress. The sim is the perfect environment to isolate the specific aspects of learning that you want to focus on. I use heli-x which has great training features but any sim would do. I find that on the sim it is best to be ahead of myself so as soon as I can get a feel for a maneuver I move on to something a bit more challenging. I think this works because all maneuvers supplement one another. For example you may try inverted orientations once you are somewhat comfortable with upright or try a left move after doing a right move, whatever that may be.

I agree; tic-tocs are quite easy to start doing (up high), but holding a stationary tic-toc? Piro-tic-toc? I'd love to be able to do those!

I can do stationary tic tocs low to the floor on the sim without any problems and also backwards inverted hurricanes that are really neat and tidy , however when I do them at the field they start ok but tend to get messy very quickly lol !
