  • Holding your remote correctly. All thumbs or thumbs and indexes?

Until now, I have been holding the gimbals using thumbs only.
I have read somewhere that the best way to hold a remote is to use a lanyard for the remote and to control the gimbals with indexes and thumbs.

I know it is important to get the basic right to avoid flling into bad habits.
So which is correct or the best?

    Thanks,

    Lucas

Some of the top pilots in the world fly thumbs. Some of the top pilots in the world pinch. Just pick whichever feels more comfortable for you :-)

I used to fly thumbs when I only flew planks, when I first learnt to fly helicopters I found I had better control by pinching the sticks.

Like as has been already said, there really is no right or wrong way, the only right way as such is whatever feels comfortable and gives you the best control.

Do what comes naturally. For me it was thumbs. I did briefly try pinching with thumbs and index fingers (because I'd also read somewhere about that being "better") and hated it massively. Also experimented with and without a neck strap and prefer it without.
As others have said, there is no "best" way to do it for everyone. A bit like cat food, the "best" one is the one that the cat actually eats

Interestingly I found this changed with a change in TX. With my JR I used a neck strap but with my vControl TX I find it more comfortable to not have a neck strap.

As said though, try each way ( on a sim might be a good idea first ) and see which one you prefer and go with it

Toatally agree, I use thumbs and some of the other not so top pilots use the pinch method

The neck strap is there primarily for safety rather than comfort.....

Yeah, but I see quite a few people use them to support the weight of the Tx too, especially pinch pilots. I just find that it gets in my way and gives me bad posture. I can't imagine dropping my Tx while actually flying with it, so not concerned about safety in that respect.

I think it serves both, Duncan for instance uses a strap, thumbs and his Tx is spaced off his stomach with a bit of hard foam to position the Tx best for him

There are also those who use both methods. At least two guys I know use pinch on one stick and thumb on the other. and it's not the pitch/roll stick that's pinched by one of them. As everyone else has said there is no 'correct' way to do it.

personally - I prefer thumbs, I find it easier to concentrate on 2 thumbs than 2 thumbs and 2 fingers , I tried the pinch method on my sim for ages but just couldn't get the hang of it.

Also with the neck strap, I don't fly any of my smaller heli's with it on, but with my 550's I tend to put the neck strap on, as it 'relaxes' me more? don't ask why, just does lol

I'm thumbs but more importantly for me is having right stick tension.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.
