  • Newbie with a Blade 500 3d rtf

Hi everyone please bearwith me as I’m not only a newbie to the radio control world but forums to.
I have just started to flymy blade 500 3d rtf that I have owned for over a year and not had the courageto fly until recently. I have used a blade 200 srx rtf that I bought in Januaryas my trainer and found that it taught me a lot about flying and of course therepairs I’m now able to hover in intermediate mode and do figure eights in asloppy way so I thought that I would give the 500 a go I started with trainerlegs on for about ten packs (that gave a lot of vibration on start-up but calmeddown in flight)
I have since used about 15packs in fixed pitch only mainly hovering and some left to right flight with nocrashes or hard landings and I was on my last battery of the day and in a hover(1m high) and the heli spins anti clockwise for no reason so I sit it downstill with no damage and find that the tail rota is hard over to the right andstick input has no change other than a few twitches from the servo.
I have since tried tocheck everything I can think of the trim is centre on the transmitter and no inputfrom that makes any diff I’ve tried to re bind and that had no change but Inotice that the giro flashes and the servo twitches when I give right tail inputand does not do either when I give left so now I’m stuck.
If anyone has any idea what could be wrong Iwould really appreciate the help, thankyou

Hi there, the Blade 500 is a great heli that I have been flying now for over a year. I would suspect the gyro or tail servo has gone from the symptoms you describe and would in any case suggest upgrading to a better gyro, the eFlight gyro is a weak link. I had a Spartan Quark on my which performed faultlessly until I converted the heli to flybarless. You can easily check the tail servo by plugging it in to any of the other servo outputs on the receiver to make sure it moves when you move the corresponding stick.

I would also advise against flying the heli fixed pitch only. By doing this you will be working the tail hard as it has to counteract the changes in torque from the motor as you speed up and slow down the head speed constantly. The heli flys well at low head speed so can be made very docile whilst still learning. Try around 60% throttle flat line curve and a pitch curve from around minus 3 to plus 10 degrees.

+1 on the advice against flying fixed pitch, there is absolutely no advantage in doing so, only disadvantages. You should be doing the exact oposite on a CP heli, constant rotor RMP and pitch varies.
