You don't have to. The manual shows that the ESC has three modes (1) airplane (2) heli+soft start (3) heli+soft start+governor.

Both heli modes (you will be in one of them) has soft-start.

yes ESCs were mentioned.. sorry for the confusion.. i gotta admit , im kida lost now..

let me ask a fresh question...
could the fact that on my maiden, my vertical fin got a gouge or 2 in it due to it sticking in the grass and being hit by the tail rotors ( no visible damage to them ) could that be causing my wobble ?
                    just a thought..

if you have a bent tail shaft or hub, yes, or if torque tube I'm assuming may have a chip gear front or back maybe

The heli should take off with the stick at about 60-70% up. If you're having to move the stick almost at the top you have a problem.

But certainly, the heli should NOT being taking off before midstick.

PS. Can you get a video of the wobble?

Compare these two vids - is your wag fast like the first, or slow like the second?

Given that you pranged the tail fin before, it's likely to be something mechanical. The throtle and pitch curve changes will not have introduced that kind of wag. A slow wag like that is either that the tail gain value is too low (you can check in your TX). Or that you've got some kind of binding on the tail, for example, take a look at the following vid at about 1:30 in. If you disconnect the tail rod from the tail pitch slider, you should have lovely smooth movement of the tail pitch slider like his.
