Just one small point... The Neuron was mentioned a few posts ago and while it looks like a great FBL controller at a great price it doesn't currently have self leveling in heli mode, so if self leveling is what you want look elsewhere.

The Spirit is what I'd go for personally based on it being just as good as anything else but cheaper. At first they sold out like hot cakes but I think they have got on top of stock levels now.

          Hello m8
I was like that a couple months ago.i was going to take up RC boats after everythink I fly needed to be repaired, Waiting on parts you know the rest.I even took a look at a couple on ebay for boats.I was on real downer with this hobby. But one thing is for sure I stuck with the helis and 2 really good friends of mine kick me up the arse and sorted me out and am back on the horse.
Having close friends do help.I would join a club and most of them would bend you over backwards.I say for most of the people on here if not all I very helpful and we are like a big family.
Try and stick at it m8.
Ps I think you are further on in this hobby then me so good on you.
          Best Regards

              Fly Mode 1.

Back in the late 70's I wanted to learn to fly model airplanes. I bought all that I needed and tried to fly for about 6 months non stop. I just could not get the hang of it. I was totally thumb dyslexic. I gave up and joined the army (not because I couldn't fly).

When I was posted to Hong Kong, I met up with some Chinese friends and they took me to a flying club. They all flew mode 1 and I thought this is weird. I tried it and never looked back.

I can't explain the reasons why I cant control a plane in roll and pitch on one stick, but that is just the way I am. Controlling roll with the right thumb and pitch with the left thumb is totally natural to me and I can fly a plane like it's on rails. And it didn't take me long to learn.

Heli's are a little different but the principle is the same. I couldn't fly a plane in Mode 2 let alone a Heli. But I can fly a heli in mode 1 although I am still learning.

I think the point I'm trying to make is if you invest a lot of time and effort in a project/hobby then always exhaust all your options before you call it a day.

Some people are just not built to fly mode 2. Call it a mental illness or whatever you want but that is the way some people are made.

Don't give up on it. Not until you've given it your best shot.

PS: The only problem with mode 1 is that it is difficult to scratch your nose whilst flying.

Ok Dean, I think you know exactly how I feel and I'm grateful for your opinion. When I came on here today there was no way back but I'm in 2 minds now.I do have a friend like yours,a guy called Rich,he is willing to help in any way ,I just hate to ask cos he's got enough on his plate but I absolutely know he would.I have been told not to go it alone but I always am , so I am not helping myself. Always been an independent so and so

This could be a great new controller option too, the latest Spektrum version of the BeastX with SAFE mode. Basically identical to my Microbeast Plus, but with a built in Spektrum receiver. It's well priced too, but looks like you have to pay extra for the self levelling and rescue functionality.
This would be perfect for your Blade 500s as it will be a direct replacement for your existing Spektrum controller/rx.

After learning to fly fixed wing in mode 2 one day I tried mode 1 because someone said it was better, and it seemed logical in that it avoids accidentally mixing pitch and roll. The flight lasted about ten seconds and ended in total destruction!

I'm not saying mode 1 is bad, it's just that if you have developed any skill at all in mode 2 it will be VERY hard to change. It's probably worse than starting from scratch because you have to first unlearn everything you know and then start again.

I scratched my nose while flying for the first time ever last week!

I have only been flying for three years.

I'd dispute the 'well priced' argument. $218 plus (based on BeastX price) about $100 for the self level 'SAFE' upgrade results in a UK price including VAT of about £250... That's close on twice the price of the Spirit and all you are getting extra is the built in receiver. You can buy a Spektrum sat receiver for £20 or a compatible for £8

Well I respect your personal experience. I tried flying in Mode 2 for six months and got no where. I was flying solo in three days after switching to Mode 1. Everyone is different.

Thanks for that Graham, what a good reply.I never have had a lot of patience ,and this has really tested it. I was out some mornings at about 6.15 before the wind got up and have done 20 or so batteries in a day but it just felt like time to call time , so then , do I bin it or try to sell it. and here I am . I'm really confused now, did I give it my best shot, what a waste of time money and effort---I just don't know but thanks for your reply , point taken. itchy nose is a problem , flies and wasps are a menace

If only Chatham was closer to Ipswich. You and I could learn to fly helicopters together and teach the young 'uns a thing or two.

                                Hello Guys
I do agree with the going from mode 2 to mode 1.I have aways been a mode 2 flyer with planes for years and and then trying to learn to fly heli was so hard to do so 2 good friends prompted me to make the change so I did.I tryed it first on the sim 20 crashes later and no cost I now fly (hover a bit) on mode 2.I dont think about mode 2 now.
