No. it's a 4-channel, FP beginner heli with 45-degree flybar so pretty much functionally identical. But not a clone in the same vein as Align/hobbyking for example.Originally posted by PeteStewardson View PostIs the WLToys v911 just a Blade MSR clone?Tom

I honestly don't know which came first, I know the v911 has been out for a long long time, they're on the 3rd revision of the airframe I believe, it's certainly well proven.Helis: Oxy 2 FE / Oxy 2 Sport / Protos 380 / Oxy 4 Max / Gaui X3 380mm

I honestly didn't think it was a knock-off clone, but this page pretty much boasts about as though it's a good thing! Frankly, the opening gambit of the sales pitch is downright offensive IMHO.Originally posted by myxiplx View PostI honestly don't know which came first, I know the v911 has been out for a long long time, they're on the 3rd revision of the airframe I believe, it's certainly well proven.

I see they've even cloned the Tx!
The big advantage I see with the Blade MSR and MSRx is that you can fly it with a decent Spektrum Tx if you are looking for consistency and longevity. I've used the same DX8 transmitter with every single model I own, from Blade mCX2 through to Oxy 3 and for the sim too. A quality Tx makes a huge difference to the feel and control, even on basic models. The cheap transmitters that come with the likes of the V911 and Blade RTF combos are really not in the same league. If you are looking to progress in the hobby, it's better to stump up for a decent Tx from the start and then buy BNF (bind 'n' fly) models from the likes of Blade. They are not cheap, but plenty of bargains pop up in the used section. Something like a Spektrum DX6i should work well on a budget.SAB Goblin 380 KSE - latest love thang

After a lot of umming and ahhing iv'e just sent for a G-Maxtec GS881 4 channel 2.4G helicopter. It's only £16 quid so it's not the world if i total it or it goes bang after a few months.
Any of you guys know about this little jobby? I know it's only cheap and cheerful (nasty?) but i thought it'll get me into flying a single rotor.
Cheers.

I'll be amazed if anybody here has heard of that. Certainly I've never come across it. It looks like a clone of a clone of an mSR or similar. I could only find two vids on youtube, neither in English. But for £16 (including transmitter?) you've not invested too much, so I hope you'll have fun with it!
The problem will be when you crash it (and it will be "when", not "if"), and you'll find spares are not available anywhere ... Whereas, for the Blade mSR, from a big heli store in the Midlands with next-day shipping ...

I've had the little GS881 for a couple of weeks now, only been 3 or 4 evenings without any wind for me to give it a go.
I'm impressed with it for the amount it cost, it's getting me used to the 4 channel flying.
It makes my other heli (MJX T-34 3 channel) seem a little boring by comparison if i'm honest.
I'll be looking for something a bit bigger in the future, this is where you guys come in!
I'de like your opinions, I'm looking at the likes of the MJX F-45/F-49, WLtoys V912 etc.
What's the best out of those 3 helis or indeed any others that fall into that sort of price bracket?
I obviously don't want anything too twitchy or advanced at this early stage of my flying career!
Thanks.

The next move you should make to progress is into 6 channel helis. Frankly I wouldn't and won't recommend anything ludicrously cheap as its a false economy.
look for a Blade mCPX. Either the v2 or the BL version paired with a DX6i or similar transmitter. Or for more money, there's now the Blade 230s which is a 6 channel, ie collective pitch trainer heli with stabilisation modes and panic button.Tom

Agreed, if you're enjoying the flying and want something a little better it's worth spending the money to get a decent quality model now. The Blade 230S is pretty much the best model you can get now as a stepping stone to full 6 channel models.
The mCPX is superb, and probably a little more robust than the 230S due to it's smaller size, but it has a much steeper learning curve. The 230S with it's built in stability modes, and rescue button makes it an easy trainer and once you move up to the more agile modes it's a pretty capable heli.Helis: Oxy 2 FE / Oxy 2 Sport / Protos 380 / Oxy 4 Max / Gaui X3 380mm

If I was starting out right now I'd just get the Blade 230S as mentioned above. It's worth it for the SAFE mode alone and you wouldn't have to buy another heli in a couple of weeks.SAB Goblin 380 KSE - latest love thang
