I'd never try to sway anyone into learning one way or another. Just do and fly what you like, as long as your safety concious.

But, if you're impatient, then good quality stick time with someone who knows what they're doing can only be a good thing.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

I was told about this heli after I had bought and flown ?? the 500 so felt I had to stick it out and yes , it has a good reputation and I should have used it.I am just short of courage to go all out on the 500 but I can't buy that

I hate the idea of having to go for lessons , but is a way to advance quicker maybe, and using the sim is not for me , sounds as though you are content with a steady flight which is all I want. Good luck to you and thanks

Its not for the want of trying, I have done 30 batteries on a couple of days, both on the 500 and the 200 but I still feel a tad disappointed . I will study these replies and try to decide how best to move on, thank you all

                    Evening Martin.

Brilliant, it's always good to hear one of my PSU's is serving it's owner well.

Yes, baby boy arrived swiftly almost 12 weeks ago now and is doing great as is mum thansk for asking. We've had our little girl home from school this week with a stomach bug, so it's been all hands on deck there, but she's now on the mend.

If confidence is your problem, a couple of hours with a competant flier on the other end of a buddy lead should help get over that barrier. With my own students I get them into a confident position with what they came to me to overcome, in that they can get themselves out of trouble should they make a mistake and try again. They can then go away and in their own time master what they went through with my backup on the buddy lead. Tehn if they choose to, later down the line as they want to progress to another set of manouvers they can come back to me and the cycle begins again. Definetly backing any tuition up with a sim is even better, I do use the sim a lot when I can and actually get that sinking feeling when I get it wrong and crash on screen. In conversations not many feel this way with a simulated model, but for me I treat it as a real model and try not to crash but still push the envelope.

                      .
That's interesting and pretty much how I treat the sim too. If you get into the habit of binning it on the sim all the time it's easy to start doing the same thing in real life! So I try to concentrate just as hard on the sim but obviously I push my boundaries much harder in the virtual world so sim crashes are inevitable when learning. But I won't attempt anything in real life until I have it 100% nailed on the sim first. Basically if I can't do something without crashing on the sim it means I definitely can't do it for real.

Can you buddy box a mode 1 transmitter with a mode 2? I can't think of a reason why not but thought I'd ask. I've thought of lessons recently.

You certainly could with Spectrum we had a skilled pilot on mode 1 who used to buddy others on mode 2, really helped a few progress.😀

Maybe you are just trying too hard? I find I start to lose concentration after about 5 or 6 packs at the field or after about 20 mins on the sim. If I get carried away and practice too hard I sometimes really lose the plot and start making stupid mistakes, but after a good night's sleep I usually fly much better in the morning. Just something else to think about if you are thrashing away at it.

Could be, not ruling anything out. Even feels nice and there is some relief when its bad weather and I can't practice so yes maybe. Never happy

                                Hi Martin,

I know it can be boring on the sim but the sim helps you with stick orientation on manouvers you are trying, Connor lives on the sim to practice new manoures, he even flys to music on it, if confidence is the problem like Ian said buddy boxing is the way to go, I remember many years ago people use to stand next to the guy who needed the help, when they got into trouble he would hand over the tx to him, some were saved some were not, I don't recommend this way especially if you have to use a neck strap or tray, get some lessons and get your machine fine tuned so it flys it's best or use there models at around £40 per hour, £40 an hour may seem dear but how much will it cost you if you crashed yours. If traveling isn't an issue then I recommend Ian Contessa Coolice but if it is then Dave or Mark which are both excellent, if you decide you don't want to travel to far then It's best to ring Mark Christy or Dave Fisher asap if you haven't already done so, from next week both of them will be travelling to Austria for the world championships 2nd-12th July.
