  • First CP Mcpx or 130X

So thinking of taking the plunge into CP, getting confident with the 200srx and the nano qx and was thinking about the mcpx or the 130x any advice will be much appreciated

130X would be a great step up,they are very stable and fly great, only downside is take fair amount of maintaining,do also crash well(in long grass!),far better than mcpx imo

Heh, I was about to recommend the mCPX (or mCPX BL) purely because it crashes so much better than the 130X :-)

In general I'd say the mCPX range in stock form are pretty tough after a crash as the linear servos can take a real beating. However the 130X and 180CFX both fly a lot better, especially as your skills improve.

My personal preference is the mCPX though, mine survived around 700 flights before I sold it on, with dozens and dozens of crashes most of which had little to no damage. It survived some crazy stuff with no damage at all, including a 30 foot fall, inverted, onto concrete. But you will at some point need to replace the tail boom, skids, swashplate, and probably tail motor or tail motor wire.

Personal preference i guess! My mcpx bl never flew great, tail was crap. 130x far superior but either will do the job

Its a tough call between the mcpx and 130x. For learning or crashing as the case may be the mcpx is so much more forgiving but the 130x does fly so much nicer, I felt my 130x taught me more than any of the helis I owned before it but if it goes in hard you will lose more stick time to repairs and any other issues crashes will cause...
I have one of each for sale if you are interested lol

Oh yeah, I'm not saying it flies great. It doesn't fly anywhere near as well as a bigger model, but as far as I was concerned when learning that was an advantage. It gave me great reflexes as you had to be on your toes to correct it. Both the 130X and 180CFX will fly tons better, but need more care and knowledge after a crash. On the mCPX you can literally throw some replacement parts on and go fly, there's very little setup needed.

            Either option can work though

I'm learning with both at the moment and I think they both fly great. The 130X TT tail drive is high maintenance as I'm sure you've heard and for that reason alone I would go with the mCPX as your next step. If you can fly the nQX in agility mode you will have no problems flying either of these! Also depends a bit on where you fly. The 130X needs a LOT more room to fly than the mCPX, especially when you are starting out. But the 130X handles wind considerably better and feels generally more stable in the air. But I wouldn't fly either of them in windy conditions. I would guess that the 130X is closer in feel to your 200 SRX in agility mode.

FWIW, I think the 130X flies better, much better than the mcpx (BL or v2). It *IS* more temperamental in the tail department than the mcpx, but I think that only really comes to the fore when you're doing more advanced stuff. For a transitional heli from fixed pitch, the 130X is hard to beat in my opinion. The mcpx is more crash resilient, but it is more of a handful to fly - especially the BL.

Get a 130X, keep the tail out of the long grass on take off, but if you can, fly above (and therefore potentially crash into) long grass and you'll be amazed how much pnishment it can take!

Me dude, one of each. Mcpx is practically new, bought it from a mate that couldnt fly it, repaired it and I just dont fly it.
130x is almost too good to sell! Mrs bought it for me just before the 180cfx came out and it never got used, flew 1 pack with it tonight and its perfect, plenty power, none of the usual 130x tail wag/shake, nothing... Writing this im actually tempted to keep it lol

Now you can't go writing that... it's just too tempting :-D

The mCPX BL just loves the wind, this was the heli I learnt on, took me from my first wobbly hovers all the way to inverted flight and piro flips.

My 130x needed the orange O rings. Crashes much more survivable than a 450 so long as you cut power and land in long grass. Takes a while to remember that minimum throttle isn't throttle off in idle up. Get used to using throttle hold on landing.
Flasher 450 Sport. Assan GA250 with 520 tail servo, MKS DS450 cyclic.

I haven't flown the BL version, but that could be a good compromise between the standard mCPX and 130X. I'm simply not good enough yet to fly either in high wind, but can handle a bit of breeze okay.

If you're looking for an indoor heli, you might want to go for the nano-CPX. The mCPX is still a bit of a handful in the house, but can be flown carefully. But don't expect to be chucking it around like the nQX or there will be chunks missing out of your walls and furniture in no time
But the mCPX is great for the garden. It just needs a little bit of space to fly confidently.
