  • Big up to Willy too!

Just done 2 1/2 packs of circuits and STALL TURNS

Went for a roll and as I went inverted and stuck in negative pitch it just lost power, managed to recover, although my pants didn't

Such a thrill now getting into FF and FFF on my own, not as nervous either which helps as my hands are shaking less.

Approaches are a little difficult as when I come to the last turn gradually losing height, it turns round so bloody fast that I have to let it go by lol and hover back in from above.

Still a landed heli is good flight

BTW what is the recommended pitch setting for idle up?, I think I may have far too much negative which is what caused the power loss. I'll check later. I thought it was set to +/- 11 deg.

+/- 11-12 should be fine. Are you sure your throttle curves are correct? You must have a 'V' throttle curve as well.

Yep checked everything back on the ground, was definatly in idle up, flat 100% throttle curve. I was gonna reduced the pitch at low stick but then thought that I wouldn't have the balls to try another roll lol so left it and carried on doing stall turns.

I might put a v-curve in but even so. I'll check it later and see whats what with the pitch settings.

BTW can you use the 13tooth pinion with the pro 325 wooden blades ok? i'm only using the 12 tooth at the moment.

When I said you need a 'V' curve, I didn't mean it literally. A flat line is fine. Just wanted to make sure you weren't using a 'Normal' curve with zero at bottom stick.
Sounds to me like you either didn't give enough negative as it went inverted, or you gave too much and bogged it. Either that or you hadn't switched to idle up. We've all done it!

OK checked and found some strange results. For some reason my endpoints for all three ccpm servos were set to 80/130??. Don't remember doing that. So I had +8 and - 13/14. Anyway, changed it all and now getting +- 11ish. I'll take it out again tonight and see how she is.

I think I bogged the head down before as it certainly wasn't anything else.

Luckily I've always made that mistake on Pheonix.... Lost count of how many times though. You go in with no intention of inverted, suddenly you get this strange urge and.... Urgh!!!

Actually I did that yesterday too, going up into a nice high stall turn, dropped collective to 0deg and thought, thats quiet lol.

Well regardless of any mistakes that may have been made with the settings you still managed to land her safely afterwords.

In my book that says the pilot has some serious skill to make the Helicopter do maneuvers when not in the correct mode, and still get away with it.

                        Congrats mate.

Another 2 flights this glorious evening, and I had my wife and stepson there to appreciate my baby in all her glory .

Pitch seems good now, did a couple of rolls, rather sloppy but rolls none the less . Realised that I also had the pitch trim slider thingy enabled too so i've disabled that, but need to recheck the pitch to make sure it's still set right.

Confidence is going up though, had a couple of near misses but I saved her and landed after each one as my heart raced lol.

If the weather is nice tommorow I'll be back out again, gonna start practicing getting my circuits neater and generally flying more precisely instead of roaring about with rolls and stalls turns willy nilly .

Thanks, it really is about practice, practice practice for me now. Gotta keep going out and improving but also not rushing it. I'd love to start doing tic tocs like I can on the sim but i'm not ready.

I used to only fly maybe once a week if I was lucky with my old Raptor 50, and never really learn't. Thats why I got the 450 cause I can walk 100yds from my house and be in a HUGE playing field with no one about.
