  • trim trouble

    Hi chaps

After a blinding session earlier I've gone down to the island spooled up and she turns left in a fast circle if I let her, plus she goes nose down, so if I'd have let the power up she'd have spun left while nose goes down and flipped over.

Trouble is I've messed with the sub & normal trims so much I haven't a clue where to start.

I know Pip said when we changed a certain batt the rudder needed a little trim afterwards but shes spinning out of control, and since I last came back I can't think of anything I've done apart from spent 30 mins trying to solve the problem and possibly only making it worse tonight.

    Any ideas people....Please?

Yea the gyro's OK, its the tail servo that seems to be playing up, no matter what sub trim I do, when pushing the rudder stick left or right she never stops in the central position on the rear tail shaft.

It's either right in or out, then when you try and balance it via sub trim it never goes central netural?

When in heading hold it will do this naturally Wayne.

Switch to rate mode and it "should" go central everytime.

If you have been changing the subtrim around and not sure what you are doing I really advise that Pip has another look at your settings again before you chance crashing it mate.

There is a very good chance the arms will be all over the place and we all know what that leads to.

            Thanks mate

She never got more than a few inches off the ground while I attempeted to correct the problems, (making it worse as I went on...DOH)

She's grounded now until I can see Mike, I'm sure it something really easy to correct, but not for this novice right now.

And I was having such fun........Bugger.

Never mind Wayne, better to get it fixed before it gets expensive! These things are hard enough to fly in trim, let alone out!
              Hope you get fixed soon

                Thanks Phil.

Yes your right, I think when I see pip next I'll make a note of all the sub trim settings and such, to use as default settings if I foul up the workings again.

It's dam annoying as I cant think what I've done differently since I powered her down earlier today and powered her for flight this evening.

                        Indeed sir!

OK I'm going to have a go myself today, I've set all the trims and sub trims to zero, is there any tips anyone could give possibly for sub trimming it out and what too look for.

I'm thinking until i can see Pip again there's no harm having a go, as I might just learn something along the way.

And if I'm very lucky I might correct it, but I'm not confident I will.

SUCCESS!!!!!! I've fixed the trim probs, I sorted one out at a time, had a few test hovers in my garden, adjusted a little sub to balance her out, finished off that batt with some enjoyable tail in hovering on my patio then put a fresh batt in took her out the front of my house and Waheeey up she went.

The wind was medium strong and she got buffered around quite a lot, but there was no fear, I didn't once panic when she was getting close I just upped the throttle and banked her away back to safety, I didn't even have a close shave with anything.

When the wind took her up, to about 12 ft I gently lowered off the throttle, added a little nose in then once she was around 3-4 ft high added the throttle to even her out.

I even had a neighbor take a photo of her on he's mobile phone while his two little grand kiddies got well excited watching her hover.

Man has it been a good day so far, I explained what the heli was and he took another photo of her sitting on the wheely bin, as a younger member of his family wants to get into this, so I said if he wants any advise bring him over, of course I'd recommend Phoenix and a Contra to start with, but when I told the chap how many hours I'd put in to get this far he said "so it's not easy then" which I said it's near on impossible to begin with, that's why to jump from a Contra to CCP you need hour upon hour of PC Sim practice.

He seemed well impressed, and said he'd tell he's son to come round when visiting to have a chat with me.

Shit I haven't felt this good in ages too say it was a rush doesn't even come close, please don't think I'm being big headed with my wording as I'm very humble knowing what lays ahead of me, but I was in total control instinct from practice moved my thumbs and brought her under gentle control every time the wind took her a bit, never panicked once, it was shear 100% complete enjoyment.

I never thought I'd get this far in a million years, Oh let me tell you please, I kept her up on my second batt for the entire length of the battery cycle then only landed when the batt was getting close to the point of no return.

Holy shit I can really do it, all the months dreaming of this moment is here, I can control my Trex in hover about as easy as my BCX2 whizzing round indoors, Please I'm so excited I'm just saying what happened, it felt like I'd been doing it for ages, not my third out time with my 450, she controlled like a dream so responsive every command was gracefull no twitchyness, rudder everything was a joy to control Plus I sorted out the trims and made her well flyable form spinning around and going nose in from yesterday evening.

                          I need a beer.............
