  • Big-Up to Cambs-Flyer - RC Heli Pilot

Well boys and girls, what a cracking day we have had!

Wayne (cambs-flyer) came over today for me to guide him through a few TRex 450 repairs. We swapped a dodgy servo, replaced the very slightly bent main shaft and a well used main gear for new and re-loctited a few loose fasteners in the head assy.

We went outside for a test fly and after a little trimming & tracking, all was well, so we let Wayne loose with the controller.

HE COULD HOVER IT!.... He said ''Its just like phoenix'' LOL.

Wayne is a relative newcomer to the hobby and has flown his blade CX2 for about 6 months, but with about 100+ hours plus practice on Phoenix he went directly to hovering his TRex450XL. The last time I saw such a happy look on someones face, was shortly after they had popped an E!!!

He has done in 6 months what it took me over 2 years to achieve. It just shows how effective flight sims are, particularly Phoenix. Beginners please take note!

Give that man a gold star, oh and don't forget his wings too! Well done Wayne.
    regards

    Pip

Hey, where d'you learn to fly? I saw you shoot your rocket
    up.............. into the sky.

Hey, I heard you set the pace, I never thought I'd see you back................ in this old place!

Wow thanks mate, it's been a very enjoyable day indeed, with your guidance I've learned how repair and replace major parts on the 450, it makes her seem a little less scary now mechanically wise.

I've learnt loads on different stick percentage setups and trimming due to the occasions strong(ish) winds.

But the major high was controlling the heli, powering the throttle when getting a little close to something allowing a second extra to correct and stabilize, plus doing gentle forward cyclic landings when I didn't have the confidence to pull out of a tight squeeze, and not a tail down first landing, or ditching the throttle for a hard bump, fantastic!!!!

I wasn't counting but you said I was hovering around 2 minutes at a time while under nice control without going all over the show, and when the wind took her a little I done as I would in phoenix, throttle up a little giving me breathing space, not panicking and bring her back under my control.

What a rush the adrenalin was surging through my veins, only this time it was pure excitement with no fear, just pure Yay.

Thanks to you though mate, your guidance telling me what to do with some major tips, explaining where I went wrong then taking your advice on board made what can be called my first serious outing with my Trex a fabulous experience.

Cheers Mate, its been a good day indeed, it was just like Phoenix but very different as well all in one, Sim practice is a must and without it I can't imagine what the cost of damaged parts would have been after today.

      Nice one Pip cheers bud'.

              Very well done Wayne!

I know just how you feel mate, I've had just such a day myself, and am still buzzing I'm looking forward to hearing of your progress as time goes by, and I'm sure you'll let us know what you think of the Trex (obviously going to be pretty good just now)
I'm also a total rcheliaddict myself. Been flying planks and full size gliders for 20+ years, and it's sooo good being an absolute beginner again! What a buzz when you make progress

                  Phil & Mike thank you.

The fun factor buries the needle, nothing else even comes close, and I can't wait until my next practice session.
