  • First cp heli for 3D

So I've started with a v911 IRL, and after quite a few hours in the sim I can hover upright and inverted in all orientations, do some decent flips and rolls, rainbows, sort of tic tocs, and I'm currently working on 8s and circles (I know RL is more difficult that the sim).

Living in London my flat is like a match box, so indoor flying is ok for the v911 but not for 3d training. Luckily I have a huge park next to my flat, so most of the flying will be outdoors.

In easter holidays I'm going to have plenty of time to fly outdoors, and I'm looking for a real life cp heli....so the question is: which heli?

    Thanks!

    Hi

The 911 is a fixed pitch 4ch heli right. To do 3d manouvers your need a 6ch heli, the most "bounce-able" out there is the Blade MCPX brushless. It will be harder to fly than the 911 but you will soon get used to it, plus there is a Ton of info on them.

Hedge, I know, thanks for the info, that's why the mcpx brushless is on the poll :-)

mCPX BL should be awesome for the park. I have the standard brushed version, which might work for you too, but people say it's a bit underpowered for 3D. I don't know as I'm just flying it upright at the moment! Some great info on both versions here:-

Blade 180 CFX - field beater for new moves
Blade Red Bull BO-105 CB 130 X - scale fun flying at the field when the tail isn't broken, which is not often.
        Blade mCPX - sold

Blade Nano QX - house fly of choice
Blade mCX2 - retired but will be back when the kids get a bit bigger

Hi lightweight , your poll is slightly confusion to me but it's not hard to confuse me lol , I take it the nano mcpx brushless is referring to the mcpx bl , when you mention nano I automaticly think of the nano cpx , when I hear mcpx brushless I think of an older mcpx converted to brushless , when the first mcpx was out iwas called the mcpx then came the mcpx v2 & ultimately the mcpx bl , anyway the mcpx bl wins hands down for me

Yeah, the poll should read mCPX BL not Nano mCPX. As you are flying mostly outdoors then the mCPX BL should be better than the Nano CPX. Neither are going to be great in your "matchbox" so I wouldn't compromise with the Nano. But don't be tempted to learn 3D in your flat with the mCPX BL as you will probably chop yourself up and shred all your furniture in the process.

I voted for both (nano and mcpx) but actually, if you are going to be mainly outside then it might be worth considering two mcpx's (one BL and one V2). If you're budget is restricted you could pick up an secondhand mcpx V2 for £30-40 (your talking v911 money here!) and then you have two on the go (you will end up with one in need of repair and having two is good for confidence that you can still fly something). I only have the older mcpx v2 (coreless motor) and yes it is a little underpowered BUT it is quite tame. You might find the MCPX BL is a bit more delicate with it's higher headspeed. You can try your moves first on the V2 and keep the BL for moves you think you can carry out with less chance a crash. I'm actually considering a BL to complement my collection for that very reason. (the mcpx v2 is my only CP heli that tends to survive my experiments on a daily basis, the 130x and 180x don't do so well when I get it wrong!).
The Nano (cpx) is good too although I have a fault on mine (and have seen similar issues) so not sure they are as robust as the mcpx. I would like to get the Nano working though as it's the only CP heli I can truly 'fly' in the house - even the mcpx is only good for controlled hover cicruits indoors (unless you have some kind of palace to practice in!).
I'm only 4.5 months in so no expert, but I'm am just attempting to master inverted hovering (real life) and the mcpx V2 has just become my new best friend

I was in a rush sorry! I can't seem to be able to edit the poll, I meant to put this list:
                  Nano Cpx
                  Nano Cpx brushless
                  Mcpx BL
                  One of each

MCPx BL is the best choice there, don't bother with the others as they're too small. Depending on how you go with that you could consider an upgrade to a 180CFX then.

There's no better small outdoor trainer than the mCPX BL in my opinion. For indoor go for the nCPX, but for outdoors the BL is great. It's got enough power to handle anything you throw at it, and will survive most crashes undamaged.

If you can learn 3D on the mCPX BL you'll find the larger models are a piece of cake to fly.

A few tips for a first timer:
                        - If you don't have one already, get a sim.
                        - Practice hitting throttle hold before any crash, work on this on the sim and the BL, it'll save a ton of damage
                        - For the BL, if your transmitter supports it, set your pitch curve so that the blades are always at zero pitch when you hit throttle hold. It's not something to do on any bigger heli, but on the mCPX BL it helps bleed off speed before you crash and saves the blades smacking into the boom.

I personally would say a blade 180cfx if you're flying outdoors. Can be tamed down for learning on and then once you're ready it can be turned up to 11! Just get a good stock of torque tubes, servo gears and main gears!

The only thing I've bust on my 180cfx so far have been landing skids and servo gears. I'm going through a few of them sadly.

I had the 180cfx in the horizon, but not at his stage as crashes will be more expensive and I could kill someone with it.

I like the idea of having an v2 and a bl, and once I can confidently fly the bl, then move onto the 180cfx.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I really apreciate it.
