hi guys ive had a little 4ch for ages that ive gotten pretty good with, but then again it is a pretty simple thing to fly, my uncles offered me his old trex 500 for a couple of hundred quid with 3 batteries since he boought his 700E which im guna buy off him just need a radio for it. my question is this, which radio would you recommend for it, ive been looking at the spektrum dx6 since i didnt want to pile loads of money into heli's just yet before i can actually fly a collective pitch successfully. i live on a farm so have plenty of crashing space to play with ha

Hi Tom welcome to the forum.

Spektrum DX6 or DX8 are both good radios. You might want to check what receiver (RX) is on the Trex500 though as it may not necessarily be a spektrum compatible RX. If not, you have a choice of either buying a compatible TX to match the RX, or alternatively, choose your radio first, then simply replace the TX with one that works with your chosen transmitter.

yea my uncle recommended the dx8 to me but i wasnt sure about the reciever ive seen it for 200 on fleabay so i think ill get that and probably a sim aswell just need to find a mac compatible sim as i dont have a windows laptop

You can get a DX8 cheaper than that without resorting to ebay. Best bet, use RC ferret ... RCFerret : Search all your favourite RC stores in one go to check out costs in local UK heli dealers.

You want a mode-2, transmitter only DX8. (PS. I would avoid the ones that say "mode switchable" ... as far as I know, that really means they're mode-1 and if you take the thing apart to change the gimbals you can turn it into mode-2. But personally, I wouldn't want to do open surgery on a new TX)

OR. if you want second hand - check out the for sale section on here, or normally the "BMFA classifieds", although that's down at the moment I believe following a hack.

also could you give me a bit of advice ive tried searching on but i think i might be searching for the wrong thing, the 2 extra channels would just be redundant on a 6 channel heli with a dx8 right?

Yes you would have two spare channels. It's worth having some spare because in the future you might need them for additional functions that some helis need.
