That is very much a specific 3GX problem though isn't it?

Nothing wrong with a DX6 as a starter radio, just don't try and go sats only with a 3GX and you will still have your rudder gain available.

Is it? What channel would my 3sx use then? I could be wrong then!! But I don't regret getting the dx9 for future capacity!

No harm in having more channels that is true.

The issues you face with a 6 channel tx vary between the different FBL options.

Some like the 3GX push the rudder gain to channel 7 when you use satellites, others like the 3SX need extra channels for the rescue function so you bump up against the 6 channel limit for that reason, but you still have options like the Spirit which has rescue and still only needs 6 channels, or a VBar which doesn't have rescue, but works just fine with 6 channels.

Perhaps the best way to phrase this is if you only have a DX6 then make sure you pick a FBL solution that works with 6 channels, plenty of choices out there that will work and some that won't.

Most FBL controllers use channel 5 for tail gain but the 3GX when running off Spektrum satellites uses channel 7 and leaves channel 5 spare (dont ask me why?)... In which case you need a 7 channel Tx

Its a minefield - get a FP blade 200SRX in BNF with a DX6 or RTF package - three modes from beginner to advanced.

If your going CP get a 500 size such as a Trex or Blade 500X (Ensure its flybarless) and join a club as these size helis are not toys and should be flown at a club with insurance, not on a local playing field or park.

If you are going to fly anything outdoors, join the BMFA which will give you third party insurance.

That's the conclusion I came to after hours of initial research. Now got a small fleet of Blade micros and a DX8 radio and they all work great.

On the radio front I was all set to get the new DX6 (which would have been fine for now) but was advised by my local shop to get the DX8 instead for future proofing. They were exactly the same price (DX8 was on sale) and the DX8 comes complete with a decent Li-ion battery. So I have the extra channels for no extra cost. Only downside is older software, but it's well proven and does the job perfectly well.

I recommend the Blade 200SRX, 3 difficulty modes, 4 channel single rotor. Double horse is just utter shite
