  • Putting the cart before the horse (again) :)

    OK a bit of background,

Got my first heli about 30 years ago, nitro, 27mghz, wooden blades. It didn't end well and I sold the remains and forgot about it.

Fast forward to last week and I popped into Maplin on boxing day to pick up a toolbox that I'd ordered. In a big pile by the till were these Propel Speedstar 2.4Ghz Indoor & Outdoor with Switch-Blade Technology | Maplin with a sign saying 'Free spares for one year'. Remembering the box of splintered wood, shattered plastic and bent aluminium from 30 years ago this sounded quite good Luckily the only card I had on me was my work one so I couldn't really buy one but the idea was now stuck in my head and home I went to do a bit of 'research'. It turns out the free spares thing is only valid in the states and the P&P charged more than covers the cost of the parts even then but the bit was firmly between my teeth now and on one of the Speedstar videos I saw "It's just a V911 clone". A few searches later and I'd ordered a V911 from the bay of E.

Of course while I'm waiting for it to be delivered I've done some proper research, found this place and realised that it might not have been the best way to get started.

    Hey ho.

Now I'm looking at simulators, which will mean buying a decent tx and Mrs D has started putting delicate ornaments away!

Brace yourselves for lots of silly questions
My one fear is that if anything happens to me my wife will sell all my stuff for what I told her it cost.

hi and welcome! I had a V911 as my first single rotor helicopter. Despite months of bouncing it off the wall and ceiling it never actually broke!

                    welcome
i don't know anything about the model you've listed
but as you've purchased it then try it out and see how you like it this time around
and when you get the hang of things and are thinking of another heli then ask on here for advice
you'll get loads of different answers but they are all given with the best of intentions

if you do read another thread with the advice of large or turbine models for a beginner please
read the whole thread and you will see that the thread is a little fun to a returning pilot to the forum
the pilot is very good and as far as we know never stopped flying, just took a break from the forum

I've got a V911 clone, they fly quite well and are good practice if you have ambitions to move up to a larger outdoor heli. For the price you really cant go wrong. Be warned; cost does start to increase exponentially once you move away from 'toy grade' to serious 'hobby grade' equipment!

Bear in mind that if you get a decent transmitter you wont be able to use it with the V911, they only work on with the Tx that comes with them.

                        Thanks for the welcome guys.

Well according to the tracking it's 'out for delivery' so I could be flying/crashing by this afternoon

Crashing will probably be right, they are quite challenging until you get the knack.

It arrived just as I was about to leave. Batteries are on charge and I must go and do a couple of hours at work. Looks like I'm not going to get much work done this afternoon

Well four batteries worth of skittering about on the floor and two batteries worth of hovering at shoulder height with only two crashes so I'm well pleased

                              And I need more/better batteries.

Oh dear, looks like it's started
