The LamaV4 gyro is a yaw rate gyro.

It measures how fast the heli is yawing (rotating in the axis of the mainshaft), and mixes an input to the yaw input from your l/h stick to reduce the yaw rate.

The greater the gain, the bigger the effect.

It's a bit like the velocity damper on a door closer, or a vehicle shock absorber. The damper acts to slow the movement. The faster the movement, the more it resists.

If the gain is too much, you can get oscillatory effects - eg the tail 'wags'. Here, the input is so great, it accelerates the tail in the opposite direction.

Ideally, the 'proportion' should be set so that the heli doesn't significantly yaw left or right with no stick input or trim.

To a degree, the gain can mask this effect, by slowing the yaw, even though the heli is out of trim.

    Here's a helpful piece: http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7952

this is an esky lama v4?? if so.. center the trims and hover
turn up the gain slowly abit at a time till the tail wags. then back it off till it holds steady, if the heli now turns slowly adjust the proportional.if the heli turns clockwise= adjust anticlockwise. and vice versa, disconect after each adjustment.
once thats steady if the heli drifts forward. shorten the left hand servo arm. if it drifts back lenthen it.
if the heli drifts left shorten the right servo arm, if right lenthen it.
(check first which servo does which action as i may have left and right mixed ..hey its 12.45 saturday)

do all this on a fully charged battery that has had about 30 sec's run out of it. be patient every thing you adjust will affect something else so you may feel your going around in circles (forgive the pun)

Are you turning the right pot? If i remember correctly i had 2 pots on the Esky Lama i had. One is the mixer prop and 1 is the gyro gain.
          Cheers

hmmm... is there any chance you can do us a video so we can see what you mean by falling rapidly? So what has changed when you did turn the pot all the way anti-clock wise?

ron if the heli is turning left you should be turning the prop pot clockwise!!

always view the heli from behind and above. and watch the nose
so heli turns left = anticlockwise therefore turn the pot clockwise
heli turns right=clockwise therefore turn the pot anticlockwise
