  • I have a 450! (now how do I connect this up?!)

    Hi all,

I have a Triton 450 that I got from ebay.

It came without an RX, however I have an orange RX already.

The problem is that neither came with a manual so I don't know which servos connect to which ports of the orange RX.

Can anyone link me to a document on putting this together? I'm expecting the battery to arrive today so hopefully I can put it together and start to tune it (I also have a blade gauge) in preparation for the maiden flight tomorrow!

    Cheers,

    Matt

Lol, yeah, don't worry, the main rotor is defo going to be disconnected when I setup the blades. That much I know

Dunno if this helps but I use the Trex online manuals for building my HKs - cos HKs don't come with manuals.

Thanks all, this forum is amazing!

I live well over 40 minutes from my nearest flying club so to have all this support is very much appreciated.

The batteries arrived for the Heli yesterday and in order to disconnect the motor from the ESC I had to cut the cable tie and try to remove it slightly from where it was attached to the chassis (at the back, on the bottom plate under the Gyro). At this point I read through the manual that John linked to above and it looked like the ESC was in a weird place so I decided to move it to the front. I had to make a mental note of the motor connections as the ESC had also been fitted upside down making it impossible to see which wires were connected to A,B or C. Now that I've moved the ESC to the front of the aircraft, it appears I traced the wires incorrectly as all the ESC does now is beep at me!

Google has not solved this issue for me as I can't find a wiring diagram for my ESC (a Titan 40A) so given that I have A, B and C on my ESC and Red, Black and Yellow on my motor, can anyone tell me the correct way to connect the ESC back to the Motor?

The good news is that I did manage to get all the servos connected up to the RX bind the RX and when I move the sticks the servos move but it looks like there's going to be a lot of tuning required for that one. I'm also not 100% convinced that the servos are connected "the right way up" - when plugging in to the OrangeRX R615, how do I know which what up the plugs should be? Should black/brown be at the "bottom" or the "top"?

Sorry for so many questions, part of me is starting to wish I'd bought everything new so I had all the manuals, but even then from looking at the Align manual it oesn't answer everything

              Cheers,

              Matt

Ah, I've just found the main issue with my ESC - the heatshrink is all the same colour so I can't match it up like it says to in the Align Manual.

Matt, I think we could do with some pics now.

As far as the ESC is concerned I personally situate it in the open at a side for reasons of airflow and quick rip off if it starts to burn. I appreciate there is not enough room on a 450 and mine on my Mini Titan is not where I would like it to be.

The Orange Rx has +ve and -ve marks on the case. The black (or brown) wires are -ve so ensure the plug is that way round. The red (hot +ve) is usually middle of the three and the signal wire that does the business control-wise is at the end.

                  Orange connections WMF.jpg

Check the ESC lead to the throttle port on the Orange is correctly orientated. Was a time when you could not reverse these leads as the plugs were contoured so I used to chop off the lip to enable fitting to 'other' Rxs.

Also the three wires to the motor are not critical to orientation but if the motor runs the wrong way swap ANY two wires over.

As above, don't worry. Connect willy nilly and if the motor goes the wrong way reverse any two. Once connected properly I usually mark leads with Tippex or more tape/heatshrink for future reference.

You'd be no better off with HK helis new as they don't have manuals. This is why I think they are great for those who know what they are doing because they are cheap but not ideal for a beginner, OK but not ideal.

That's fair enough, I'll see if I can get some time later on today to do this

Here we go - I managed to grab a couple of minutes earlier on just to take a photo of it out of the box:

The plan at the moment is to move the ESC to the front and fit the receiver at the rear under the Gyro.

I'll post some more as I take them and get this back in the air.

I would imagine you may have realised by now, your main blades are the wrong way round in that pic.

Ah you beat me to it.

Good pic Matt. Can you put the ESC under the frame possible slightly back? Gets air and is reachable in an emergency.
