  • Completely new to the hobby

    Hi all

I am new to this hobby and I'm really interested in getting a rc helicopter that I can build myself. At this point in time that's the main goal and flying it comes second. I'd really appreciate any advice as to what I should start off with. I don't want to break the bank and I'm not fussed if it's an indoor only model.

Thanks in advance you wonderful people

Align Trex 450, nice size for building, cheap(ish) to crash/rebuild. You won't want to be flying it indoors unless you live in a warehouse though. Depends on budget and how far you want to go in the hobby. Unless you have large living room flying indoors is a tricky way to learn to fly, space is real bonus to learning. MCPX will fly indoors but not much building involved, but they will fly outside too if there's no wind. You can get a basic heli out of an xmas cracker to fly indoors but you won't last long in the hobby going that direction. Spend as much as you can afford now, buy cheap now and you'll regret it as you have to upgrade rapidly. Remember batteries, chargers controllers all add to cost and can end up costing more than heli. Main advise would be get a sim like Phoenix to really learn where your brain and thumbs need to be without smashing up helis.

If it is only the build you want then get a cheap clone like hk450 or copterx. Then if you decide you want to fly you can test your building skills. You need to be even more careful when building a clone to makw it fly nice

i got a hk450 from hobbyking.i thought it would be cheap and good to learn building on

i wish i had saved my money and got a named brand instead as there is just too many tweaks, and half the heli is align anyway.

i have now got a second hand 450pro on the way
