  • Battery / Speed controller query

When you guys change from 1 battery to another do you swap them straight away and continue flying or do you leave it a few mins and let things cool down?

Reason being half way through my 4th battery the throttle seemed to be very intermittent and holding a hover was impossible compared to my last 3 batteries and i had to touch down and land.

The heatsink on the ESC was very hot and was wondering if that could of caused the issue?

I put the battery on charge which showed all 3 cells as good and it did not take too long to charge to full.

It started raining soon after so have not been able to try another battery once everything had cooled down.

I was only hovering tail in so nothing too strenuous.

Sorry if this becomes a double post as the 1st post seems to of disapeared.

i would never fly back to back packs as this is what can happen heat build up can cause all sorts of problems in your motor, esc and all the motors in your servos, i would recommend a good 5 min to 10 mins between flights,
    hope this helps .

I can fly all my Helis back to back. It all depends on how efficient your powertrain is. If either the esc or the motor ( or both ) get unbearably hot then something is wrong. It could be a number of things inc wrong gearing, sub standard lipos or hardware simply not man enough for the job ?? Also esc settings wrong, motor timing etc

It depends on which model. Only my logo 600 which is on a scorpion 500kv motor do I get any heat related issues. On a hot day I may leave it to cool for a few minutes. The rest I fly back to back with no problems at all.

Unfortunately the 4025-500 is pretty renowned for getting hot. It's generally not seen as a problem though.

Mily you have to remember we are in a beginners section and we all can't afford to run top of the range , he has not told us anything about the kit being used and I thought these forums were here to help people,
I have run a lot of this sub standard kit before now and it has taken me years of hard work to get to where I am now , so I offered a little advice to a beginner .
We cannot all afford to run the best gear, but the experts on here seem to be hand. Out advice all the time !

U must have misread my reply. At no point did I call myself an expert and I simply pointed out possible reasons why his hardware overheats. I also did not mention expensive equipment just sub standard

Ok then, until you know you can trust everything you shouldn't fly back to back , you should have a good check over after a flight motor , esc etc etc, then try 2flights back to back and so on , if at any time thing s get hot then you should endeavour to find out why!

Rugby mud, I hate to say this but Don really is one of the good guys.

My advice would be exactly the same. If you want to fly back to back there's no reason why you shouldn't. You just need to have a little more consideration for your gear. If its getting hot try turning your head speed down. If its still getting hot drop a pinion tooth. I also found moving the esc to the side frames helps a lot in reducing temps. I used to fly 6 packs back to back with no pause. I have no issues with putting 6 packs through any of my helis even now.

And yet again another exspert, guys we are in a beginners section, all I said was not to fly back to back ! I have flown back to back with a logo 14 on 10s stick packs on 600mm blades with a hacker a50 ET motor and a kontronik 55-32-18 esc, and the things never got hot even when pushed and even dragging my 25c li pos down to 7-10% summer and winter , I have even charged 2x 30c 3s2200mah pack in 5mins constantly for an 8 hr flying sessions for my mini Titan , I have even set fire to a sub standard pack in the air which destroyed the heli too, bitching over forums ehh who ends friends!!!!

Dude I think you need to chill out!!!

Personally I too like to leave my Heli's for 5-10 mins between flights to give things a chance to cool down.

If nothing else it's a good excuse to have multiple Heli's!!! That's my excuse anyway!!! :-)
