  • OO MMMMMMY ............ SMASH

Had a bit of a problem today, either, a tail servo failure, or a gyro faliure, and my shuttle ends up rotor disc first into the ground (halving the size of the disc, mangling the flybar, braking tail fin, but not too bad) got away quite lightly realy. I was flying OK for me, but was having problems holding the tail (on throttle up/down was the worst) but generaly it was realy twichy and had a tendency to over correct with the slightest of tail inputs. So I asked the person whom set it up and has test flown it for me on several occasions to check it out. He did so, and the end result was the aforementioned crash. I don't blame him for the crash as it was a no doubt a parts faliure but and this is what the post is about, what is the best course of action now, (new blades, flybar, tail fin are a must) but do I replace both the Gyro and Tail Servo as a precausion and if so with what (sensable suggestions only as a very limited budget) any advice would be greatly received. (see gallery for damage shot, I am gutted)
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

    And a DX8 too

the best advice regarding gyro/servo choice is to buy the best you can afford.

also change the feathering spindle and the main mast as a matter of precaution
on another note looking at the picture get a tail servo mount youll be suprised how much better it is also your gyro looks like a csm 180 you didnt by any chance turn off revo mixing by mistake did you ? if you can get the csm 200 heading hold there much better and not that expensive

        You are right but

Yes it is a 180, but there is no revo mixing set up on the radio, and has always been this way ( I like to fly rather than press buttons!!!! I don't like the radio doing it all for me) the tail movment was way to large for just a tiny amount of throttle adjustment! Thanks also for the tips about the mast and feathering spindle, as today i strippied it down and found the the main mast to be bent by about 3mm (and the tail ouput shaft was also bent as well). Also the CSM200 was my gyro of choice after browsing MIDLAND today (60 is a good price for a heading lock) Any tips on a Good servo?

          Gyro, Servo

Having a look on Midland's site today, I have thought about this Combination of Gyro / Servo for my tight budget it was about the best I could come up with for spec and value.

CSM 310 remote switchable Rate/ Hold gyro. (69.99)
          Sanwa SX112 servo 4kg torq, 0.14 sec. 60 deg (13.50)

Anybody know a better combination for the same price?
