  • Problems with Blade CX2

    Hi,

I have been learning on a Blade CX2 for a few weeks now and in this time I have snapped a few blades and replaced them. However yesterday I was flying and clipped branch this caused the blade to break. I replaced it from spares but now the helicopter won't take off. The batteries are fully charged but helicopter won't lift off the ground and respond correctly to the controls. For those of you who own a Blade CX2 it is virtually impossible to put the blades on the wrong way round, so why no or very little lift?

Any ideas? All help greatly appreciated.

Are the blades spinning up to speed??
how hard did you hit the branch?
Have you checked all other parts, for example, the shaft is not bent?

I have found that even if its just a blade that is broken its still best to take the canopy off and check everything from the shaft to the gears etc??

    Hope this helps

I know this will sound really silly, but double check that you have put the correct blade on. Then as T4ttyt3ddy said, check everything over. Worst case scenario is death of a motor or even both. good luck with it mate.

I notice you also said won't respond correctly to controls? In what way?

        Hi,

I have given the model a real going over and I cant find anything wrong. However my girlfriend was watching me and suggested that the lower blades seemed to be going slower. I think she may be right, but the model has only had about 4 hrs flying time so it can't be broken already.. Thinking about it though the branch I hit (see original post) was the lower blades. Surely I haven't broken a motor doing that - well made it rotate slower?

Maybe a shaft, that could now be binding, only way to know I'm afraid is strip it right down. Did you make sure throttle was trimmed to zero and shut down straight away after the crash?

Have a look underneath without a battery in place and watch the two gear wheels, do they move freely with the motor gear cog?

A bent shaft to the point stopping the rotas spinning fast would possibly topple the thing over even before any lift off attempt happened.

Do double check the rotas mate, I know it sounds crazy but sometimes you cant see the wood for the trees.

Also check the motor lead hasn't popped out a little in the 3in1 box, though I can't see that being the issue.

Just how big was this knock and how far did she fall?

after checking every thing is correctly fitted and staight.
try fitting a fresh battery. then apply full left rudder and slowly raise the throttle. one set of blades should spin up.apply as much throttle as you can without the other set spinning. ...if all looks ok (no wobble or binding) try full right stick and try the other set. this will give you some idea of how the motors are

Update: about two days after this I connected a fresh battery and smoke started pouring from the helicopter. Either a faulty battery or faulty ESC that sent things mad. So instead of buying a new ESC I brought a whole new CX2 off eBay for the same price!

I think were dealing with the old light bulb dilemma, your buy one and it'll last months, then another will pop after a few hours.

Remember just because these little Contras are great value and offer excellent flying, the parts in the grand scheme aren't that well made so if your lucky the motors, 3/4in1 will last ages, but, mass market produced heli's like the CX2 you get what you pay for, luckily the spares are as cheap as chips, but the bottom line here is regardless of being superb little machines, don't expect too much from them.

I fear E-Flite will have some stiff comp as E-Sky have upgraded all there contras and HB's to 2.4ghz, with prices starting from £99 as advertised in a heli mag.

So a Lama4 2.4 ghz at £99 (examle if true) is gonna shake some heads with the other Team which will be good as I can see the Contra 2.4ghz market all being under £100 notes before the years out.
