  • Help please!!!

My postman brought me a Blade MSRX recommended by a well known RC shop in the UK , i rang two or three shops and explained i had never flew anything other than toy helis from toys stores and they recommended the blade MSR X i am now frustrated as hell because im 80 pound down and know ill never be able to fly this thing, its all over the place and is very unstable for a newbie. i wanted something that would hook me into the hobby, i fear alls this is going to do is frustrate me because i have already failed to trim and even hover with a Nine eagles solo pro. The transmitter has beeps when you press the trim buttons and the beeps get louder and then tone for longer when its trimmed, i have done that but its still flying off to the left, it has no instructions what so ever of how to trim it, it does come with a dvd but thats all about how to repair it, that tells me alone that this heli is not for the likes of me and i have wasted more money that i really dont have.
If anyone has any ideas of what to do it will be most appreciated, There is loads of vids on youtube but most of them are about guys who have had to make adjustments out the box just to get the blades level on these things.
    PLEASE HELP>>>

A heli will naturally go to the left anyway.

As long as its not tipping to the left it should be ok but if it is then you need to keep trimming it to the right (the opposite direction) until it will hover relatively well without going drastically in any one direction.

Ah, I think the Blade MSR X is a flybarless heli so it should be relatively stable and you should not be putting trims in on a fbl heli as the fbl unit will see this as an input from the sticks. But I do not know that system, perhaps someone with more knowledge on a Blade heli can chime in?

I would have recommended something like this E-Flite Blade MSR BNF

No help now of course I know.

birdman - As Ben (Jamin) explained - all helis drift left naturally - it's a consequence of the tail rotor pushing to stop the tail from spinning around. You need to lean the heli gently to the right to compensate. As Ben also mentions, trims are not necessary since it is a flybarless heli - remember, you cannot trim out the left drift - that's just physics I'm afraid.

I would say, the MSRx *IS* an OK (edit: actually, I'd say more than OK - it's a good..) heli for a beginner - you certainly haven't been advised badly. That said, helis ARE a challenge - it's part of what makes them so rewarding to fly. Perseverance and practice are key!

If you want to learn more about why a heli drifts - google for "translating tendency"

If you want to pick up loads of tricks/tips and advice about how to go about learning to fly your msrX - take a look at RC Helicopters, The Most Fun And Rewarding Of All RC Hobbies - The flight school videos will give you a good idea of what things to practice. Don't worry that he shows them with a big heli - the principles are the same!

Just had a quick google for the manual, if you have the ready to fly version (comes with transmitter) try changing the dual rate to low, this should slow things down, check page 9 >>>> http://www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/BLH3200-Manual_EN.pdf. Check that everything is straight and swash is level before taking off. We have all been there and first flights are a juggling act, usually ending in bits flying off in all directions. You will get used to it if you keep at it, these are not toys and require a little more input than something out of a xmas cracker. You need to teach your thumbs not to over react and over compensate, once it clicks you will wonder why you struggled to hover, but it takes time and practise and will be frustrating, but that's what makes it so satisfying when you crack it.

Where abouts in middlesbrough are you based?
helis are difficult to learn to fly, its a steep learning curve but a very rewarding one;-) keep at it.

Hi mate this is a long process, but there is lots of help available get online and find a club if you have not already, there is a wealth of practical knowledge at the fields and in the indoor clubs, it may be slightly daunting but get talking to local flyers and like minded people. try a coax heli also as they are quite stable as the rotas turn against each other. keep persevering with it happy flying regards j

Take consideration of the above advise and if you really want to progress from toy helis to more advanced ones, I suggest you to get either Phoenix simulator or even better, the Realflight 6, 6.5 or 7 and practice on the PC. Many of us here regularly uses the sim because it's a million times cheaper than crashing!! ... I think Midland helicopters is currently doing a deal on the Realflight 6.5!

Hi I just started my self, so I know how you feel. I thought I wasted my money too but you haven't. Like the rest said keep at it and you really need a sim too, it help me so much and after two weeks im on to a mcpx bl. Then you have to learn to fly again
But I still use my fixed pitch to practice on for nose in etc cos it easier to fly.
One thing that I found is to change to the lower setting like it expand above and you need to get it in the air quite fast to about one and half foot then it is a little easier cos if you try to take it up slowly it will want to tip over. And you need a big clear space with no wind to start with a good 15 feet square is still a little small bit it can be done. If you go outside even a little wind will move it around alot and you dont want that yet.
So as you take off dont use the trims for now just a little right on the stick as you take off will help, then try yo hover but will be all over the place to begin with dont worry just practice practice practice and it will come but it a long road and dont give up because it feel so good when you get your first hover
                Hope this wasn't too long

I work with a very small budget and I really can't afford to crash, but it happens, and it's generally not cheap when it does.

If you don't have much money to throw at the hobby, then I'd suggest getting a simulator and at least learn to hover on that first.

Don't take this the wrong way but if you consider £80 to be a lot of money to waste on the hobby, then you're probably in for a shock.

Guys, i cant thank you all enough for all your help and input, everyone of you where right.
Im actually getting this heli up now (YEEE) in my living room ( fleece over LCDTV ) and am getting allot of excitement and fun from the MSRX.
I totally over panicked last night when i first flew it because A, I didnt know it had easy mode ( Right thumbstick clicked in ) and if i touch slightly on Aileron to the right and get it up quick its better and B, because i read some info on this particular model that said it was a hand full for beginners.
Ive got it now and im sticking with it, if i learn to fly straight in at this type it will only do me good.
I called in my local hobby shop today and was told as above and that there is a indoor heli club at Nunthorpe school on the first Saturday of the month.
SO excited for that to say the least, im sure there is other indoor gym sites all over Boro that heli peepsare are booking out, but will have to find out more when i arrive for first time.i got to fly it today for 10 minutes in a sports hall and couldnt belive how great it was. So addictive.

It's a waste of money on an MSR, the model will struggle to get off the floor with it on. If it starts going wrong just chop the throttle and let it fall. the model is so light the parts that get damaged are the undercarriage. The rest of the model is pretty bullet proof.

Ah,ok ill leave the training gear idea then.

Was a little worried about the plastic tail as it keeps coming loose and is coming off every crash, as u can all imagine, there is plenty of them at tye moment, the tail has a small slot that connects to the heli and stops it moving but once that has had a few bangs the fit gets slacker and slacker,i was thinking of glueing but then thought it would snap completly of it was glued in hard.

The 5-1 looks likes its getting a few knocks on the edge of the circuit board where its exposed from the back of the heli, was wondering if i could put some protection down the exposed side part, Ie silicon ??? just so it doesnt get bashed.

I was looking at the original MSR and was jealous about the charge unit that comes standard with that model, you can charge four batteries at once and the msrx has one battery slot, batteries last 5-6 minutes so its a pain with only one charger, ive ordered some more batteries and they have to be Elite ones apparently otherwise there will not fit, i bought some yesterday that looked bang on they even fitted inside charger but wouldn't go in heli, so lead must be non generic.

99.9% certain that there are other (cheaper) batteries available for the msrx. I'll check in a second. As for chargers ... all the chargers that come with a BNF model are pretty limited. If you stick around in the hobby - a decent charger, with a parallel board will be pretty high on your list of things to buy - trust me!
