HOW MANY BLADES

Hi Chaps.
Very interested in the fact that StevieT's magnificient Squirrel helicopter and advertised for sale on this site sports a three bladed head.
Having myself a vario airwolf heli that I am completely rebuilding, I would like to know if it would be a good idea to fit a similar and more scale like rotor head to this helicopter.
I have heard reports that in doing this and also removing the flybar, you will have a stability penalty to pay, I will greatly appreciate any comments on whether this is true or not, and if this heli has this mod, could this make it too much of a handful for yours truly.

Hi Mo

Airwolf, based on a Bell 222, has two rotor blades so I'm guesing you are considering a flybarless head?

I've heard these can be a handfull but would look great.

Flybarless flying is not that difficult but it's difficult to make the flight look smooth initially - when you throw away the flybar you have lost the stability that it provides particularly when flying in any wind.
The flybar gives you an almost automatic gust response stabilizer.
It requires a slightly different flying technique which after a few flights can be learned.
Keeping your inputs very smooth and gradual is a major help - flybarless does not respond well to throwing the sticks in to the corners.

Hello Dave.
From the description you have given me of flybarless flying, and mindful of my age, you have convinced me to keep with the original setup and forget about scale appearance.
I was a bit concerned that I had overstepped my mark in buying the thing in the first place, but felt confident enough that if it is flown first time out by an experienced flyer I would master it O/K.
Thanks also Mark for your reply, and after what Dave has told me I will not be having a handful to fly.(I HOPE)
