  • Blade 450x alternative main rotor blades

    Hi,

I have been, lets say, exploring the limits of my skills with my Blade 450x and have have a boom strike. Although I have it all together now, the heli shakes more than it did previously when spinning up. As far as I can tell everything is straight and set up as it should be. I suspect that the vibration is due to the main blades being out of balance due to a nic out of one of them. Can anyone suggest a good (cheaper) alternative to the stock carbon blades?

    Many thanks in advance.

i would go with the align 3gs, i would also not recommend purchasing another set of the stock blades they are not very good.

Align standard and 3G and RJX FBL all imperfects. All work brilliant. for between £10 and £12.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

Before you spend money on a suspicion - I would try to verify that the blades are the problem. Have you tried spinning the heli up with all (including tail) blades removed? I personally doubt that any nick in a 325mm blade that isn't big enough to make them bin fodder isn't going to generate a major vibration.

Thanks for all the replys. Very helpful. The suggestion of spinning up without the rotors attached is genius (& like most good ideas so obvious once you know about it). With the blades removed everything seems to run smooth and straight so I am going to try the Align imperfects and see if it cures the vibration. Watch this space. ...... Thanks again for the feedback it is such a big help.

Update...... I have fitted the new rotors (very nice and well worth the money). And... Tom you were spot on, the new blades made very little difference. I have now looked very closely at my heli & been looking this issue up on tinternet. My problem was with the new main gear that I fitted. When I screwed in the one way bearing it kicked up a tiny burr below the collar and gave the gear a very slight wobble. I have now removed the burr and everything is now running as it should (plus I now have a new shiny set of blades). This does seem to be a fairly common occurrence with the Blade 450x/450-3d so I thought it would be well worth mentioning. Cheers,
