  • Battery charger

Any advice on a decent but not ridiculously expensive charger. Am flying a Trex 700 E with turnigy 30c 6s 5000 Mah batteries.
    Thanks,
    Matt

In a word a PL6 would be your best buy along with a suitable power supply. A Fusion 600w should be ample.

PL8 without a doubt, but whatever way you go, you will need a decent PSU

Did no one else read that? :P

I would go with an iCharger 306B from electriflyer, Will charge 3 flight packs in an hour for the 700. Build a server power supply to power it and you'll be all set

I had a really cheap 80w charger that took 90mins to charge my 5200mAh, ok I knew it would take the time, what I didn't know was that it's balance charging capabilities were suspect. I know know that it basically shortened the life of my 6S pack due to incorrectly balancing them. My PL8 seems to be making a slight difference every charge cycle.

What price your flight packs, cheap charger could cost you more in the long run....

I would agree with that, you could go the HK route and buy a cheap charger but it will cost you more in the long run as your packs will suffer. I've seen other people including myself skimp on charging equipment and it just doesn't pay !

An iCharger is not skimping though, There reliable well known chargers for significantly cheaper than the powerlab line of products. Obviously it depends on the person but a 306B should be fine for most people. If you want more then a 4010Duo is incredibly good value for money.

Thanks to all for the advice, Is there a link to any UK dealers for these 2 items so i def get the right ones? Sorry for being a bit naive but very new to electric flight.
                Thanks,

Nothing wrong with the iCharger it's very good and a great price ! But I'm a strong believer in do it once do it right , I've tried all routes before and the Pl6 and Pl8 are by far the best value for money in the long run !

I have a PL8, and so far it hasnt missed a beat.

Like others have said, you do need to factor a good PSU into the equation.

ideally you are going to need a 24V 1500W+ supply to cope with the possible demand comfortably

Just a note to say you will need more than that, The PL6 only includes the charger so you will need to buy balance boards etc to be able to charger. That Power supply will not allow you to fully use the potential of the charger either. You should be able to get approximately 20A out of the charger with that PSU.

Pl6 unless you want to charge 7s packs in future then get a pl8, with a coolice psu. And good to go
