  • 450 Pro + AR7200BX = bad issues

I've had issues since they released BeastX v1. Recently my Vbar packed up so I bought another AR7200BX while the Vbar was away getting fixed. I was sort of hoping it would fly really well so I could use the Vbar on my 500 EFL I have. I don't know why I keep hoping it will perform as well as the Vbar. No idea what the issue is with the BeastX or where I am getting the setup wrong but it flew 'ok' at best. It's weird because the Blade 450X looks like it flies great with it on and I flew a 500 with the BeastX on it it was not terrible either. I tried all the pots from all the way up to all the way down and a mixture of both and it flew pretty much the same apart from pot 1 all the way up was unflyable (as expected with cyclic gain that high). I tried all the different settings in the parameters menu as well and got it flying a bit better but still it would chicken dance in the air. To me it sounds like the blades are stalling and the beastx doesn't know what to do and the whole heli just goes off axis. Worse still is that the tail speeds up like a mad catherine wheel most of the time making learning any more piro moves nigh on impossoble. I have tried upping parameter D gain, increasing pot 3 with little or no difference. Also tried lowering them but then it just doesn't hold. My setup is below:

    Cyclic: Savox SH0257MG
    Tai: DS520
    Motor: 450MX with 15t pinion
    ESC: Align 35A
    Blades: Align 3G

Max pitch is 11 degrees and cyclic was blue at 6 degrees indicating good geometry.

I also tried it with MKS DS95's on cyclic and while it was slightly better it was still very apparent.

    I'm running all the servo's at 5.5v.

For anyone thinking it's my servo's the whole heli performs flawlessly with Vbar so it must be a setup issue but no amount of tweaking seems to cure it. I have almost perfect mechanical setup on the tail, in rate mode it barely moves in any direction and my servo hole is 8mm from centre and on the innermost hole.

My only thought is the cyclic limit. I usually set this up so I don't get any binding but maybe I will try to lower this considerably to see if this helps.

So before I sell yet another BeastX unit...........any other ideas?

have to say that although im quite a novice to fbl in general i love my beast x units, 4/5 flights on my 600 pro and i had it nice and only a couple of flights on the 500 to get it performing the way i like.
like i said i am a novice and ive never flown any other fbl controllers but im very happy with the way my helis fly at the moment.
pot 1 on both helis is turned up a little and control is set to transmitter, tail pre comp is on low on the 600 and off on the 500.
ive pushed out the hole on the pad.
sorry thats not much help for you mate but mine are great if that makes you feel any better

Piroflips will be fine for a couple of flips then it randomly speeds the tail up like 3 times quicker.

        Ready to boot it. Lol.

Please boot it my way I have an AR7200BX and mine is excellent, not doing any piroflips though and most likely will never do them.

In fairness Dan you may be right. Russ Deakin recently updated to V3 and went straight back to V1 as he had problems with the cyclics and couldn't sort it. If he can't sort it then I have to say as the chief tester for the CSM SL720 then I reckon no-one can. Set up with V1 it works fine and he can fly, so in short I reckon there are issues with small helis on V3 that can't be got round. So I reckon it's wait until your V Bar is back mate, or swop the AR7200Bx for a standard one and regress the firmware to V1. I've got a standard one I can put to V1 and send you to see how you get on if you want.

I think theres a few setup issues going on here, wrong mounting pads, wires not routed correctly maybe but that shouldn't be happening chris.
Dan, maybe you could get someone local to you who has some experience with the beast x to have a go setting it up? Fresh set of eyes and all that
A common mistake and ive done it myself is when doing the servo centering, flicking the rudder so it goes back to the servo neutral position after youve centred all three then moving onto the next setup point. This looses what youve just done. on the third servo, get it centred dont touch the rudder again then move on to the next setup point. Also you dont need to set the tail up in rate mode, just get the slider centred and set your endpoints.
              Just a thought.

ive found the same thing on 3 different models with the beastX pad and V3 software tone sad to say it as some seem to have a good one and some a bad one

I've tried the AR7200BX unit on a Sab Goblin and Thunder Tiger X50E, and X50Nitro. It works perfectly on all three.

Here's something I've found: The AR7200BX unit doesn't seem to work as well with no DSMX satellite plugged in. Without the
satellite fitted on my X50N, the machine danced around all over and kept on drifting hard to the left. No amount of messing with settings
cured the problem. I then fitted a JR DSMX satellite and the issue's dissapeared immediately and it worked perfectly.

So, I then fitted it to my X50E, without the satellite, same problem. Fitted the satellite, worked perfectly.

Also, make sure the Hz rate for the cyclic servos is set correctly for the servos used.
Also, the default control behavious settings are pants. Set this to TX, and use 20% expo and 80% low dual rates, and 100% dual
rates at the higher position. Leave all the pots in the center position.
Set the gyro mode to 'low' and set 48% gyro gain (DX8) or 75 % gyro rate(DX7)

Make sure the cables are not inducing vibration into the unit.

                      Hope this helps.

The beastx is a great unit, only time it let's me down is piroflip reversals on he 450 pro where it will put the heli into piro blur, entertaining for spectectors as they think your a piro god but not fun for me. I think this is down to the shear power the tail has on this size heli as it was fine on my 600.

The inconsistent piro problem could be something to do with control behaviour parameter menu 'transmitter' blue light and is explained on page 66 of the v3 manual. In this mode the rudder can go into freewheel and tail can reach unregulated piros that the gyro can't control. It can be solved with servo throw or dual rate on the tail it says ;-)

It may well be a setup issue but I have gone over it time and again and done things by the book and it still eludes me. I have managed to get the beastX to do the same on a 500, 550 and 700e (albeit nowhere near as bad) which were all built and setup by someone else so I guess it's something about my flying they don't like! I had control behaviour set to transmitter as anything else was too slow, I use 100% DR's with 20% expo on AIL and ELEV.

Thanks for the offer of a lend unit wavey but I think I will save this unit for a bigger bird and see how it reacts on that. I'll stick the Vbar back on the 450 Pro and enjoy trouble free flying again.

Jason you have a unit that I used on this 450 and also a 500 that I was testing. Don't worry, it only seems that it flips out on my heli's so you should be fine! Lol.

Just annoying as I want it to work!
