  • Align 3GX V3 FBL System any good?

    As title, i am wondering is the 3GX V3 is any good?
    I have just bought a Trex 600 EFL PRO airframe need a FBL controller.
    Now i have a beastx on my 500 and can't fault it really, but am i right in thinking that if i picked up a cheap 3GX, i could update it to V3 and iron out any potential early software issues.
    I can't run to a V-Bar and don't really want one as it could be costly cos i would then want to put one on the 500!

    Thanks,
    Dan.

    Your like the 3GX v3 on the 600, tail is the only issue & I've got that sorted on my heli's now.
    Today's outlook is fine for flying.

      General consensus of opinion is that v3 of 3GX is on a par with the AR7200BX. I've got v2.1, v3 and a BX, but in all honesty, I'm too basic a pilot to give an informed decision. They all fly fine as far as I'm concerned ...

        Had a good go last weekend on my 550 running running V3. Noticable imporovment. Tail is alot better, and very direct on the cyclics.
        Worth a punt for the money. Dont tell anyone though. They'll start to go up in price.
        Be interesting to see what the next version gives us.

        Cheers

          Hey.

          The 3GX on V3 is performing very well, there has been the odd gripe about a tail twitch while on the bench and V3 requires a good power supply to the servos, but otherwise its great.
          Fit, fly and have fun.

            Totally agree with 'coolice'
            I fly 3gx on my 700 dfc and 500 dfc and as good as my 500 with VBar and 450 with Beastx.
            In fact the 700 and 500 3gx get flown the most.
            Time for people to stop knocking it and go fly it.

              Been through 3GX since its difficult birth. V3 update puts it capability up there with the best (& expensive) rivals.
              I fly two helis, one with 3GX & the other with V-bar & when flying either model, there's nothing between them in their.

                Wow, there's some good feedback!
                It's nice to have your opinions, i got the response i was hoping for.
                They seem a bargin at the moment, where as the Beastx seems to be holding strong money second hand.
                I guess some people are buying combo kits and selling the 3GX to get a V Bar etc.
                Can an early one be upgraded?
                Thanks,
                Dan.

                  pretty sure yes. Certainly 2.1 upgrades to 3.0 no problem. As far as I'm aware, they're all the same from a HW viewpoint.

                    Yes you can upgrade any version but there are hardware differences.
                    Align redesigned the hardware completely in late 2011, early 2012.
                    See Helifreak thread about tail drop.
                    Someone dismantled and shows the differences.
                    You should look for the production date code printed on the side of the unit.
                    For example H12

                    Letter A=January
                    B=February
                    and so on.
                    11=2011
                    12=2012
                    So H12=August2012 production date.
                    Go for any date after D12 and you should have the latest hardware.
                    The sensors were changed, they were also fully wired for temperature compensation as well as other things.

                    Edited...
                    Just found the Helifreak thread, post #513
                    See the link at the top, it won't paste here....
