3GX tail wag/gain to high ????

Hi Guys

was out flying my trex 600 Pro yesterday and when I got a bit of speed on the tail started to wag like hell
everything on it is brand new so would not think anything is worn just yet
so is the gain to high ?
and if so how do I alter it
do I need to go into the 3GX on the laptop or can I change it in the TX ??

Yes, gain too high. The value is changed in your TX.

LOL ok its a JR DSM2 TX if that helps with the 3GX running through a JR RD 921 RX

Gain is probably set to the gear channel but how you adjust it depends on how the Tx has been setup.

Will either be through gear channel (gyr) travel adjust or through gyro sens option in the menu list of tx.

Hey buddy.

If you're using a separate receiver with the patch leads, the manual will have you plugging the gyro gain into channel 5 (GEAR). This could be linked to just your normal ATV's or the gyro gain menu if you've done this within your Tx.
If you connect your 3GX to your PC, you can go to the settings tab and visually watch the gyro gain value change on screen to double check you are adjusting the right value.

Another area to look at with the 3GX is the Rudder Locking Gain, as standard at 70% this is too high and can also induce a wag. If you do connect to the PC lower this to 45/50% which is the sweet spot for this parameter. Then adjust the normal gyro gain to suit.

1 question the club that set it up used there pc with v4 for the 3gx where mine is v2 which I have updated last night
will this make any difference when I connect it to the 3gx unit
as its one reason I haven't so far
I am worried it will S***W things up ??????????

Like I said the club that helped set my 3GX up used there own PC as it had V4 for the unit where mine only had V2 on it
I have now updated mine to V4
but my question is will it B****R anything up when I connect it together
as I am unsure
must be someone on here that has a clue ?????????????????????????????????????

I think going from v2 to v4 might re-set the unit to defaults, but only way to check is plug it in and see. if it has then you will have to go through the setup process again.

Either way there is no harm in connecting it up, just make sure all is working correctly after you do.

Hey.

As above, Align do recommend that after a firmware update you go back through DIR mode and complete setup again. While I have found the settings did stay the same, I hadn't made the jump from V2 to V4 which is quite a big one, so I'd suggest going through the complete model setup to be sure.

P.s. What BEC do you have powering the RC system, the supplied Align BC6?
If yes change it, as it's not powerful enough and later version firmwares for the 3GX made it much more power hungry.

Yes I am suing the one that came with it

I would think for now what I am doing with it will be fine but I do plan on having a good go at chucking it about once I get my head sorted :-)

A few options. Assuming you are using standard servos (not HV servos):

1. Use a 2s LiFe battery powering the servos direct and unregulated. Fully charged the battery will exceed the 'official' voltage of the servos but loads of people run them this way and no one seems to have issues. For instance: ZIPPY Flightmax 1800mAh 2S1P 30C LiFePo4 Pack (UK Warehouse). Advantages - cheap and simple and reliable. Disadvantages - you have to charge the battery, exceeds 'official' voltage of servos, it's a bit heavier than option 2
2. A 'HV' BEC powered off the main flight battery (e.g. Castle BEC Pro, Gryphon Quasar, Hobbyking YEP etc). Advantages - is this is lighter and no separate battery to charge. Disadvantages - can be expensive and BEC's might occasionally fail.
3. A good voltage regulator powered off a dedicated 2s or 3s Lipo, but this IMHO is the less favoured option as it combines the worst points of both of the previous options.

Any of the above will work. Have had great success with the Castle Creations BEC PRO. LiFe packs work well to and is only one item to buy.
