  • Bekra so far

Ok,after switching from a well known fuel to MT Bekra 20% i whipped the backplate off the 700 tonight to find a spotless rear bearing after 2 gallons

Also finding the burnt fuel residue to be more tacky and when rubbing with finger and thumb it does'nt dissapear like the other fuel so i can imagine it is looking after my engines better.

Im still running the other fuel in my 600 so have been pumping 2 types of fuel and im finding the pump alot harder to crank with the Bekra which can only mean more oil....cant wait to burn it in both my models when the other fuel runs out

Will check bearing after 2 more gallons and report back

Glad to see your liking the new fuel

Model Technics has been flawless for me so far.

Bekra will look after your engines, no doubt about it. It does so because it has a tiny-weeney bit of castor oil in it mixed with synthetic oil. The only difference between Bekra and Coptamix is that Coptamix is entirely synthetic oil so gives a smidge more power at the expense of a little protection.

It's the castor oil that makes your engine gummy inside and the pump a tad stiff.

Coptamix-20 boy here - works a treat and looks after me engines with sensible needle-twiddling.

The model technics site doesnt list any castor oil in bekra and you dont get the brown stains on the engine that castor oil normaly leaves Bekra If you check out something like duraglow it clearly list two types of oil

bekra doesn't have castor in it
the contest range of heli fuel has 2% castor in it

Couple of years ago I used to use Bekra and there was definitely castor residue on the bottom of plugs. If it wasn't castor, it was crap in the fuel. Never tried Coptamix though.

Bekra was formulated by Ben Godfrey of Bekra RC (sadly no longer with us). Ben had something like 30 years experience of racing motor-bikes, especially 2-strokes, and there wasn't much he didn't know about them!

He also had lots of contacts in the oil industry, and believe me when I tell you that Bekra was probably the most thoroughly researched model fuel ever formulated!

Originally it had slightly less oil, but the content was increased slightly to satisfy the OS warranty conditions. The only difference I noticed when they increased the oil was an increase in the residue on the model - it didn't affect the running in any way!

About 2 years back, I finally got my OS 70 overhauled for the first time. It was a hand-me-down from Mark, who used it for a season before the OS90 came out. Once he got a 90, he handed it over to me, and I've been using it in my contest machine ever since. I reckon it was probably 7 years before its first overhaul.

Needless to say, I'm not going to be changing fuel mix anytime soon........!
                        Pete

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

Bekra 20 is a mixture of KLOTZ KL200 and EDL or EDL2 (Extream Duty Lub) a castrol product, as someone said already no castor in this just 18% total oil not sure of the mix of oils however the rest is methanol and nitro.

Never used bekra only coptamix and that was great fuel.

No complaints from me or the guys at the club who use it.

Glad your liking it as they great guys at MT and have been around for years so know there stuff
