  • Clunk or Fuel Tube??????

I just thought I'd have a look at the clunk line whilst I had the Rappy's tank out for crash repairs. Glad I did.

The line was very soft & had fallen off the outlet nipple. Think that may have happened during the very hard landing.

But I had only just changed the clunk & fuel lines a couple of months ago!

I know some people use fuel line rather than clunk. The only time my heli is upside down is by mistake so I think that fuel line will do a better job.

    Anyone use fuel line instead?

I think its the exhaust gases that rot the silicone, always keep your tank full.
the fuel line in my gallon container has been there for two years and is still as good as gold so must be the exhaust fumes imo glenn

With clunk lines I also cut a small ring of fuel pipe and use this as a collar to retaing the clunk weight and keep the clunk tube on the outlet spigot.

Because my 700 is using crankcase pressure I use the same retaining method on every single fuel pipe joint to stop it blowing off, only takes a couple of minutes extra for each joint plus some long nose pliers.

ive found there to be a huge difference in different makes of tubing, some turn to jelly almost imediately where others last for ages.

I got some black tubing once from skyline, had to rinse it in fuel first or it sent the inside of the tank black, but that stuff was as tough as old boots.
            All the best

That would be the Hayes clunk tubing

                  Hi,
I make a point of changing the clunk line on my helis often, and have never had a problem, mind once or twice I have found the line in poor condition and chaged it. so if I have to do anything that involves removing the fuel tanks the line gets changed. A good mate of mine had to do a auto to save his heli after the engine cut out due the cluck line. So now he has ordered some Hayes clunk line from the as he could not find it here in the UK, can you get it? if its as good as people say I might get some for my scale helis.

I would say max 3 months, maybe more often. I have often found the clunk to be really soft so do it about every 2 months.

I have been filling my tank straight after a flight now, after reading a post earlier on this year from barney (I think).

Will see how long it lasts
