  • 105 piston ring locating pin

    Good evening all,

Im aware this subject has been well covered in the past but needed to
    ask the question again.

Heard a "swooshing" sound coming from engine which apprears
to be rear bearing (no biggie) upon taking apart there is a deep score
in piston apparentley not a problem to use this piston again however
the locating pin has vanished as if by magic.. Now from what ive been
told this is now a new piston job as it cant be replaced is this all correct?

    thank you in advance

Yes, a new piston is required. They now come with a solid silver pin

Should my piston not be replaced due to a manufacturing defect thats forcing me to buy another piston?

Good luck with that! I'm sure os denied there was any problem with the piston but they changed the design, go figure

Im sure i read on here a member also rung up about that and got a new piston.. Actually thinking about it the guage down the side
of my piston is pefect size for that locating pin and also the pitted marks on the crown on piston are probably from the chewed up bits
of the pin as it mangled its way through my engine

Yep, had my engine all but replaced and I know others have. Get onto RIPMAX and point them at the other threads. I spoke with a Peter Halman, a very nice man after contacting Japan direct and it went form there.

My theory is that the con rod wears and allows the piston to rotate slightly, wearing the pin as it does so. So for £16 or so I'd replace that too.

Yep, I had to pay for the crank and the bearings if I remember right but that was it. The case was fine but the rest was replaced.

I'd go with the gentle approach. I did send my engine to them after they asked me to, after inspection they offered to repair the engine with some FOC parts IE the bits that had been damaged in the latest failure and some parts I paid for.

A very nice man Pete, they come in for some criticism but I've found them nothing but helpful and very responsive

Agreed with Dave, Peter also sorted my engine, sent me some new bits FOC. I left my liner as it was as it was fine, but I replaced my con rod, and the piston and ring were provided by Ripmax.
