You wouldn;t want to drop a bearing in there, surely?

You could always fish it out with a knife!

i can confirm that the toaster method works too just sit it across the top and leave for 5 minutes (although you may need to pop it down once or twice in that time )

Mine started the 'hyper death rattle', was wondering what the noise was until that nice gent Ade Law pointed it out, His quote not mine, mine seems to be the inner bearing though, looks corroded and rusty and a really rough feel, outer one seems fine.

Ended up using a small blow torch and gently heated it up until it was hot enough the banging it out on a towel made it pop out and then using the crank shaft inserted the new one straight back in again. worked a treat and have had it back up and running.

Yep i did, but this was the method i was shown to do it, alright if you are carefull and heat evenly, not just hold it on there and hope for the best, and running on the min setting, it was from someone that had changed alot of these and to annel the metal you would have to get it bloody hot.
