  • Help me choose a new drone..

Have dabbled with some micro helis in the past, including collective pitch but then sold everything. Lately someone gave me a toy Hubsan Nano q4 and have been bashing that round the house. I'd like to get something for outside and would like the following features:

    1. I'd like to be able to fly it FPV so the video is transmitted to my phone in real time
    2. Not essential but the ability to do the odd video tracking shot ( I do the occasional car videos)

would a Phantom 3 standard fit the bill? I think only the two higher end versions seem to have the transmitters with the phone cradle? Or is the video feedback too limited to do FPV?
Or would I be better off getting an all in one basic FPV racer like the Echine Racer 250?
I know I'm basically asking for a drone that does video and FPV in one...and I don't really want to spend more than £400 ideally ..
But my requirements are pretty basic.

from what i read, wifi fpv sucks, its latency is too high. need some 5.4ghz stuff. Just my uneducated viewpoint

If you want to fly fast around trees and weave in and out of small spaces, you want an FPV mini quad.

If you want to take great aerial video / photos, then the Phantom 3 is really hard to beat. My Dad has the Phantom 3 standard and it's cracking value. Considering the first Phantom (which he still has) cost £400 with nowhere near the features and not even a camera.

If you can stretch to the advanced, then I would, purely for the lightbridge video link. If you do get a P3 Standard, you may end up wishing you'd gone for the Advanced as the Wifi to the phone/tablet can be a little.... erm, unreliable in my brief experience with it.

You could FPV with wifi on the P3. Like I said, every time I've seen one fly (we have 2 at the club) the wifi flakes out as soon as you start recording on the camera. Latency isn't really a problem as the P3 isn't very fast. Light bridge should be lower latency and much more reliable.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

Thanks. Really useful info here. I think the video recording and pictures aspect will be very limited and I don't have to have FPV and recording simultaneously. So if tHe wifi cuts as I start recording it would not be a big deal. So a standard might be the wY to go.mthe advanced is another £200 and that's just too much at this stage. Likewise the proper FPV racers total up to serious money as the ones available here all seem to need building up with no single one I've seen yet which would come complete...

This might fit your budget, my grandson is able to fly it using ether his phone or tablet, the lag is very tiny with this quad unless you really try & race it.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Blade Inductrix - Build Log + Parts List

Build one of those they are phenomenal round the house... mega stable and so much fun. Great first step into the real world of fpv racing. Its basically a Blade Inductrix modified with a Quanum Elite (hobbyking) micro camera/vtx combo. You will need a Spektrum transmitter if you do not already own one. Best fun you will have i guarantee it. And because it is a ducted fan setup its mega safe We are about to start holding micro fpv racing nights in our club hall
Good for outdoor too in extremely light winds.

The only issue when you get one that is already built up would be putting it back together after it takes a hit.
                    Depending how bad it is.

You might spend more time taking it apart to replace parts than if you had built it up yourself.

The Eachine racer 250 from banggood flies well for the money (arf) and think it comes built up for about £90.

I on the other hand am a cheapskate and made my own lol.

                    Then got twins.
