    Default Quark and 700LE

I have fitted a new quark to my 700LE and test flew it at the weekend.

I am getting a very slight anti-clockwise tail drift in HH.

I have a thick pad, plate then thin pad to mount the gyro.

Any suggestions welcome, do I replace the thin pad with a thick one? I have also heard that using a boom support brace can help?

There is no visible vibration problem.

(When I had this problem with my 600 and an gp750 gyro I used 2 thick pads with the plate to mount and it solved the problem)

    Any suggestion most welcome

change the pads to 2 thick ones or...
Where abouts have you mounted it? If your not using a flybarless system (this usually takes up the front gyro mount) then try mounting it on the rear just in front of the boom (furthest away from the motor). This will keep the gyro away from the engines vibrations up front. Youll need to extend the leads on the gyro to do this though Youll probably find that when you mount it here the pad configuration you are already using will work great. Also make sure you turn up the gyro gain until the tail wags then back it off a touch. This will ensure you are getting as much hold as you can have (depending you also have the ball/link mounted on the correct hole of the tail servo. Which will give you the correct amount of mechanical gain also). Youll find the further out the ball the lower the gyro gain will have to be set and vice versa. You need to be in the sweet spot to get the most out of it. FWIW also these gyros have strong gains.

Ok, thanks, I think the mechanical setup is all ok, and I have the gain about right

It is currently mounted at the front, I will change the pads and try that first to save getting an extension and I prefer it under the canopy so it does not get covered in exhaust.

FWIW mines mounted at the back on both my 600 and 700 3G systems. The frame there is angled up so even if it goes in hard it will be fine I found mounting at the front meant that if the engine wasnt tuned pretty well then youd get drifting etc. We all know engine tuning changes with the weather! 1 thing less to think about for me when the weather/season changes. Its hard enough getting your engine to perform really well without it affecting your gyro and also making your tail drift/not perform correctly. Thats my take on it anyways. Each to their own though

I was just thinking I could try by just replacing one pad at the moment. If I then still get the problem I will move it back. Thanks for your advise, it has been noted I just need to wait for the wind to die down a bit so I can had a play around and find a solution that I am happy with, but at lease I have somewhere to aim towards now.

    Thanks

Spartans are normally very vibration tolerant and a single pad is often enough. The quark being so small you need to ensure the cabling cant transmit any movement/vibration but still allow the gyro to be isolated from the airframe. If you have a USB cable you can confirm the current settings you have programmed in to arrive at the correct servo horn length and can view the true gain at the Gyro. The reason for asking is the gain % shown in the Radio depends on brand and method used to control the Gyro. You can also run a diagnostic check.

Other Possibles: Radio check for centered trim/subtrim in ALL flightmodes. Tail linkage must be buttery smooth including tail slider requiring minimial pressure to move. Servo horn to long. meaning inadequate gain. Motor rich/lean.. did you dial indicate the clutch stack. Loose boom stay bolt orl clamp. Bad tail blades or something bent. Tail push rod resonating between the rod supports (a piccy with a camera in flight will show this) etc Tx pot on rudder, Servo mounted properly. Voltage stepdown ok.

    just be methodical

hope that helps narrow it down

Cabling transmitting vibes would also defo be another obvious choice as Brian said... id defo look at that also! Dont tie it down too close to the gyro or it will transmit vibes up the cable. leave a few inches before you zip tie/fasten it down.

I had this not so long ago, same set up,if you have a dx8 then take a look at the monitor for any abnormalities in the rudder.
