    Thanks Matt,
Did you also use a strap? I have my gyro on this but the heli is going bonkers at high headspeed and I wonder if Zeal tape also needs the velcro strap?

yes you need the velcro otherwise it'll fall off. the gel effectively just stops it moving around / vibrations. the velcro holds it down

The align stuff is a bit softer than the 'proper' zeal stuff. I use the align stuff for general mounting of electronics but prefer the real stuff for gyros.

That's great, thanks for your help, I didn't know the Align stuff wasn't proper zeal tape

I am having difficulty setting up a VBar and you might just have nailed it for me. This stuff is very soft and also quite thin and the gyro moves around alot, this is why I am curious if is necessary to use the straps too?

Maybe I will use two layers of Align Gel and the supplied velcro strap or alternatively just use the foam pads supplied in the manufacturers kit

The PU Gel seems so work well on my trex 700 (ys91) with the vbar sensor, I just have a single layer with a strap pulled moderately tight so that it just compresses the gel a little. The tail is very locked and steady, no noticeable oscillations on the cyclic.

yes it's not genuine (Kyosho) "Zeal" tape. The real deal has proper adhesive film on both sides. The PU gel, you can't trust its stickyness.
A typical Align brain-fart, if you ask me But it comes with a free strap, and guess why...

Zeal tape is IMO not stiff enough for a V-Bar. A gyro only cares about rotation, where whatever tape is stiff enough. The other two axes are softer. I use Spartan tape myself.

Thanks to everyone who replied on this thread, it is very useful info and I have learnt that "everything may not be as it seems".

Since I now know that this is not genuine Zeal tape I will scrap this Align stuff in favour of normal gyro pads

Genuine Zeal is green and about 3 times thicker than the blue Align stuff. Unsupported with strapping it has more 'side wobble' because of it's thickness.
I know MrMel reckons it solves V-bar vibration issued mounting the sensor on it and compressing it with a strap.. but I can tell you that i have played with almost every combination of Zeal, attenuation pads and gyro pads and tape and the align stuff..

And I can tell you that if you have a real vibration issue or a dud gyro then it really doesn't matter what you do..it only helps a little and not usually enough. If the problem is marginal then yes.

Paradoxically Ilve had helis mounted with (again) almost every combination that have developed a horrid vibration where the gyro still worked fine while the rest tries to shake itself apart.

Trust nothing to stay stuck without a strap. The PU doesn't re-use anywhere as well as claimed..even with cleaning surfaces with spirit, dried then washed off water and PU washed as recomended. Zeal has a thin sticky layer that usually peels off and stops it sticking on re-use. A safer option is to stick the PU/Zeal back down with thin double-sided mounting tape if re-using it.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion it's more to do with sensor software and batch quality/luck than mounting method :-(

i have been through the same issue with v-bars. i orderd the zeal from the states and tried every combo to stop tail drift. if you leave the zeal unstrapped you get bad wobbles in tick tocks, stops etc. if i strapped it hard enough to stop bounce i got the vides back through the tight strap. i even tried zeal on the top of the gyro to stop the strap vibes. i have found the best ioption for 3d/ tail drift is a 2mm spartan pad, metal plate and then a very thin pad.......

    Thanks Gents,

I have been chasing a VBar issue for months now and just cannot seem to trace the problem

I have three Vbars; two have been faultless but this one is a pig since day-one!

It is fitted to a brand new Trex600 powered by a brand new OS55 and still it behaves like too much vibration, is it possible that my gyro is over sensitive? If so can anyone suggest a remedy?

if in a one-to-one comparison one fails and the other does not, send it in for service.

This is an option, Rainer has given me a green light to send it in but he also tested it using his very impressive online tool which came back OK.

So, I think it is a mounting/set-up problem but am really perplexed having tried just about everything I can think of but would welcome others' input before stripping it out for an overseas trip to Potsdam.
