  • taming the blade 400

for you guys that have progressed onto the blade 400. i tried a pair of wheel collets on the flybar today. and added 10% expo to cyclic controls and what a difference.
nice rock steady hover and very docile on the cyclic controls. could even waggle the right stick around abit without sliding off the disc!! also steadied down a small tail vibration i had

No mate just joking...The wheel collets are for RC Aircraft & are basically a brass round nut with a small grub screw used to stop u/c wheels coming off the ends of the axles....People use them on flybars to add extra weight and dumb the controls down a little(Or lot)..

The expo is in the exponential menu of the DX6 tranny...Basically the more % you add on the aileron & elevator it softens down and de-sensitizes the right stick (If mode 2) around centre...Makes the controls less jerky & much less responsive-Which is good when learning as the tendency is to overcorrect on the sticks.

basicly it means adding a small amount of wieght to the fly bar. ill post a picture in a minute! and as gazza says above a small adjustment in the tx

you will only need one collet on each side of the bar

          here you go..

For those who do this remember that the flybar paddles are a screw fit (after removing the hex screw), not a friction fit. Just made the mistake on one paddle that because there was a locking/securing screw that it was friction not screw fitting.

just to move this on one more step. ive now fitted a trex450 flybar. (a bit stronger than the wire the 400 uses!!!) also the trex paddles.
the paddles wiegh one gram more than the stock ones + the wheel collets. and have a larger surface area(dont know if that makes any difference). but the heli is still nice and stable, and hopefully a bit stronger!!

                    flybars £2,99 for two....stock £1.99
                    paddles £2.99for two.....stock £1.99
                    so not an expensive upgrade

not stupid at all! just ask for a pair of 2mm wheel collets. thats the size you will need. (2mm being the hole in the center)

                            Thanks for the advice

I have added 15% to the expo and with the collets it has made such a difference.
I had 2 full battery flights yesterday between 3-6 ft hovering and didnt crash.

                            very happy
