  • New Tiger Raptor 50 Titan build.

I picked myself up a new Raptor 50 Titan kit. Having only ever had electric heli's and never built or flown a nitro Heli I thought at this price it was worth a punt.

    http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ra...7000-gyro.html

Going to start this new thread as I know I'm going to need some help on this one but before I start I want build up a little shopping list. I'm trying to keep cost down so going to most try and source used components so if you guys have anything suitable let me know.

    So far I have -

    Raptor 50 kit.
    RL 53 engine
    RL Pipe.
TG7000 gyro - Looks a bit crappy, will probably see if I can pick up a Quark.
Align 2 in 1 Voltage Regulator Combo with Lipo.
    Spektrum AR8000 Receiver.
3 x Align DS610 Servos, in the post on there way.

    Going to need -

    Throttle servo.
Governor - Whole other story, don't really know if I need one or how to fit, will defiantly be seeking your guys advise on this one.
    Basic starting kit.
Probably going to go with a DS620 tail servo, if I can get a cheap enough Spartan Quark then I'll replace the TG7000 that came with the kit.

Is there anything I'm forgetting? I'm going to make a start on it tonight, if anyone has anything they think may be of use to me just drop me line.

I had a few hours spare this evening so I thought I would make a start at least.

Personally I quite like the kit, for what I paid I really wasn't expecting too much in terms of quality but I must say I'm pleasantly surprised.

Now I'm not saying its up there with my T-Rex 550 but I would say its probably on a par with the Blade 450.

Took all the pre assembled parts out and ensured all was thread locked and to be fair it was all put together very well.

I also managed to get the engine put together and in.

I would replace the wooden blades for carbon fibre unless you are starting out in which case the wooden ones will be fine on a lowish head speed.

            Cheers

I built one of these over the winter months to replace my Raptor 30, was out flying it last night, it's fantastic with bags of power!
I appreciate helis have moved on quite a lot since these were first out, but set it up right, (every thing straight and level) and you will have one awesome heli!
I would also give that TG gyro a chance before changing it as they are pretty good & easy to set up. good luck.

                All the best,
                Dan.

I've been away on business in Germany all week so this afternoon was my first chance to carry on with the build.

The kit comes with wooden blades which even Thunder Tiger admit to them not really being fit for purpose - "we suggest to use wood blades for hovering only"

                    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1340393839.321700.jpg

Now to be fair I haven't progressed much beyond a hover but still thought it would be a good idea to swap them out so got some of these.

Managed to get a fair amount done tonight. All servos, receiver, regulator, battery are in.

The thing that took me the longest was tiding up the wiring which I'm finally fairly happy with now.

Still waiting for my Spartan Quark, hopefully will be arriving tomorrow. Once I get that wired in and set up I should be getting close to be able to see if she starts!!!

Well she is finally there. I been working on an off all day, too wet and windy to do any flying so happy to get on and get this build finished up.

I set up all the servos, fitted and set up the spartan quark, and tidied up all the wiring. Reading up on the redline 53 engines I removed the engine to check the fan was on nice and tight (Apparently these have a habbit of coming loose unless you take extra care to ensure fitted well)

Well here she is, finally happy that everything is set up and all nice and tight she is now ready for a test flight.

Having never flown I nitro can anyone offer some advise or perhaps a few pointers that I need to be aware of before I try my first start up. Maybe there is something I've missed that you think is worth checking again, let me know.

I have to say for the price they are doing this combo for I think it's a cracking deal as all you have to buy is 5 servos, reciever, battery and starter.
I would also replace the blades for FG or CF ones.
These heli's are still very capable and can be setup to suit a beginner or expert and are a cheaper route than some of the electic alternatives plus you can fly for around for probably 8-9 mins.

I would get some of the very small zip ties and put them on all your fuel tubing to stop potetial leaks and also would advise you get someone to hold the head still when you first start it up just incase you get an hot start other than that good luck with your maiden
